My eyes fluttered open, there wasn't much light in the room. Everything seemed fuzzy. I sat up and looked around, trying to find an object to focus on. I closed my eyes again and took a deep breath. It smelt like a hospital, with cleaning products, and an unnecessary amount of bleach. I placed my hands down next to me, grabbing onto the edge of the cot I had been laying on. I opened my eyes again. This time I was able to focus. Across from me was a mirror about the same length as the wall. I stared at my reflection, my brows furrowed. "I know you're back there. No need to play games."
The mirror suddenly shifted, letting me see through the other side. The light in the room suddenly flickered on. There was a group of people looking back at me. I only recognized one of them... Brock Rumlow.
I looked around the room before standing up. In the corner by the window, with a little half wall for "privacy" was a toilet, a sink, and a small enclosed shower. In the opposite corner of the room, at the foot of my cot, was a cryostasis chamber. The last time I had seen one like this was when Bucky had his surgery done, it was obviously Wakandan technology. I hummed softly as I walked over to it, gently tapping my finger on the glass. "We are using Wakandan tech now? How did you slimy octopi get your hands on this?"
"Keep your hands off of that!" A familiar voice shouted from the other side of the window.
"Oh?" I turned around to make my way over to the window. "Does someone think I'm going to break the billion-dollar tech? Tsk tsk, Brock. I didn't think you were that much of a meathead. Guess I was wrong."
"I believe you know exactly how we got it." An older gentleman who stood towards the front of the group took a step forward. Got close enough to the glass that you could partially see his breath on it.
"Illegally." I walked over to the window and crossed my arms over my chest, looking up at the man. "I want to know who in Wakanda is stealing tech and selling it to Nazis."
"No one you would know." He turned to walk back to a table that was in the back of the room. It looked like they had a whole conference room set up in there. He shuffled through some papers before grabbing some and handing them to Rumlow, who disappeared out the door.
I hummed softly, taking the time to study the other men in the room. "Try me."
A little slot on the door that leads out of my cell opened up. I could see Rumlow through the window on the door. He was passing through the folder of papers that the older gentleman handed him.
I walked over and grabbed the papers, spinning back around and throwing the folder at the window. The loud thud echoed through my cell as the papers scattered on the ground.
"It's Osiris, right?" He turned from the table and walked back to the window.
That name made me cringe. That wasn't me, that's the name of a killer.
"In your file here, it says that you went on countless missions to help our cause... and they didn't even have to brainwash you? Interesting."
I walked back over to my cot and sat criss-cross, watching the men as they studied me. "If you get to know about me, why don't you tell me something about you?"
He let out a soft chuckle as he shook his head. "Let's see how your mission goes and then we can discuss names."
"What's my mission?" My eyes widened as I launched myself up, walking towards the window. They can't just kidnap me and plan to make me kill people right off the bat.
"Take a peek at those papers you threw on the floor. You've been asleep for a few days so you should be well-rested. You leave with a team in 3 hours. Start reading."
Suddenly I saw myself in the glass. I raised my fist and started pounding against the glass. "You can't... make me... do shit!"
The door opened and Rumlow walked in. He was carrying a garment bag over his shoulder, hanging it from a hook on the wall behind the door.
I backed away until I hit a wall, trying to put as much distance as I possibly could between us. "If you take one step closer I will knock you right on your ass. You and I both know I can."
He rolled his eyes and crossed his arms over his chest. "You will be fine here. Just cooperate with what he asks and nothing will happen."
"Fat chance I'll believe anything you say." I walked the wall, keeping my eyes on him, as I made my way to the cot. Climbing up into the corner and hugged my knees. "I'm gonna die here."
"Read over your files and prepare for the mission. It's not big, just to get you back on your feet." He turned around and walked out the door, locking it behind him. Once he was gone the lights dimmed, I could still see everything, it just wasn't as bright.
I slid off of the cot to walk over to the bag, opening it to reveal a plain black dress with a pair of tall black heels and a blonde wig tucked into the bottom of the bag. In the front pockets were a photostatic veil and gloves with instructions on how to use them. I zipped the bag back up and got down on the floor, crawling over to the scattered papers, looking over them as I tucked them back into the folder. Opening it on the floor in front of me, I took a deep breath and closed my eyes, opening them again and reading the first page.
Mission Type: Assassination
Target: Jennifer RaddickI adjusted my skirt as I walked through the entryway of the Daily Bugle headquarters. I walked over to the security guard sitting at a desk just to the right of the entrance. I leaned towards him over the desk and whispered softly, "Hail HYDRA."
"Hail HYDRA," he whispered back before grabbing a small purse from behind the counter. Sliding it over the counter to me before nodding. "Have a good day ma'am."
I threw the bag over my shoulder, letting it rest at my side, dropping in the burner phone that Rumlow had given to me. Takes a quick peek into the bag to see a small handgun with a silencer at the end of the barrel. I let out a soft sigh as I made my way to the elevators and clicked the 'up' button."You will go to office number 407. Once you get there you will tell the receptionist that you are there for a 3 o'clock meeting with Ms. Raddick. Your name is Bridgette Menendez." Rumlow set a burner phone down on the table in front of me. He fidgeted with a couple of apps before pulling up one that just looked like a big red button.
"Oooh. What does this thing do?" I raised my finger over it, looking up at him with a smirk.
"Once you get into the office, do what is necessary to the target without making a big scene. Then you can push this button, it will cause an electrical fire on the other side of the building. Evacuate with everyone else, we will meet you two blocks down."The elevator door opened, letting me and a few other people off on the fourth floor. I kept my head down and made my way down the hall to the door marked '407'.
There was a young woman sitting behind a desk staring at her phone, placed against her computer screen to make it look like she was working. "Please take a seat. Ms. Raddick will be with you shortly."
I walked over to the little waiting area and took a seat, holding the purse in my lap. My eyes glued onto the door that led to the target's office.
The door opened slightly as a brunette woman poked her head out, looking around the room and stopping on me. "Ms. Menendez?"
I nodded and stood up, walking towards the woman.
She opened the door more and stepped out of her office, sticking her hand out towards me. "Nice to meet you! I hear you have a great story regarding my research as of late."
I reached out and shook her hand. "I do! I'm so glad we could meet in person. It's hard to discuss stuff like this over the phone."
"Please, come in and we can discuss." She held the door open letting me into the room. Closing it behind me then walked over to take a seat in her chair. "So... Tell me what you know about HYDRA. Are they rebuilding after their collapse with SHIELD?"
"I am so sorry..." I pulled out the gun and pressed it to her forehead before looking away. I pulled the trigger. My skin crawled as I felt the gunfire before looking back at the, now, corpse.
Blood had splattered across the window that was behind her desk. It honestly almost made me gag. All these nightmares I had tried to put behind me were being replayed, and this time it will only be worse.
I put the gun back in the purse and then set the purse on the desk before reaching into it and grabbing the burner phone, pulling it out, and pressing the button. As I set the phone down I peaked up at the computer screen. It was open to a document about her findings on HYDRA. There was a section about the Winter Soldier project. I growled softly under my breath as I grabbed the mouse, highlighting all of the information about the project and then deleting it. Simply replacing it with 'Rogers'.
The phone buzzed on the desk with a phone call from an unknown number. I answered.
"Hurry up or you will miss your window," Rumlow growled into the phone.
Sirens began to scream through the building. Sprinklers kicked in, drenching everything.
"Fire! There's a fire!" Roddick's assistant yelled before the office door shut with a loud thud.
I let out a sigh before opening the door to an empty lobby, making my way to the stairs and out the front of the building, blending into the crowd of people. "Maybe I want to get caught."
"You know what will happen if you do that. And I know you don't want to end up like last time."
"You know I'm better at this than you want to give me credit for, so calm down." I hung up the phone and tossed it into one of the garbage cans on the sidewalk by a bike rack.
Fire trucks and ambulances pulled up in front of the building as I began walking down the sidewalk to a black van that was about 3 doors down. When I got to the van I saw Rumlow in the driver's seat. The back door slid open to another soldier sitting on the ground. I ducked my head in as I climbed into the back, taking off the veil and wig as the door closed. I handed them to the soldier and watched him toss them out the window as we drove away.
