Ever since breaking up for school, I had felt a calming breeze surround me like a blanket. Being away from school refreshed my mind.
It was a cloudless summer, each day the sun shone brightly, even though at times there was a cold wind surging through the sky.
The summer nights were spent with Ruby, we relaxed under the clear dark sky. The stars above were speckled, creating a shimmer and gleam that looked like glitter.
The little weekend away at Oakland Woods became a distant memory. At times my mind would revisit what Lexi mentioned, but I ensured I didn't dwell on it too much. Zac and Melissa were still together, so it felt like what Lexi said was pointless, as if it were meaningless words.
The day I had been dreading for most my life, had finally arrived.
Result day
Each step Ruby and I took, we got closer and closer to school. My face was hot and sweaty from all the dread clouding me. My hands fidgeted in a restless manner. I continuously let out shaky breaths, whilst biting the inside of my cheeks.
We finally arrived, the school hall was buzzing with students. They were all dotted around the large room like ants. Each person anticipating what they got from their exams.
After finding the right area, I stood in a line that slowly got shorter, meaning that I was mere seconds away from getting my results.
After telling the teacher my name, I was handed a white envelope. I clutched onto it tightly. As I moved out of the way, trying to locate Ruby, my eyes were glued onto the paper right in front of me.
"This is it." Ruby approached me, nervously bobbing up and down.
I couldn't tear my eyes away from the contents in my hand. My heart started to beat faster, it pittered against my chest. I blocked all the light from my eyes, trying to regulate myself.
"Hannah?" Ruby's voice called out in a concerning tone.
"I'm okay. Just shit scared." I nervously chuckled, opening up my eyes. "I don't think I can open it."
"Alright I'll go first." Ruby took a deep breath in and proceeded to rip open the envelope.
I closely watched her movements as her eyes scanned over the sheet. I couldn't determine whether she was happy or disappointed.
"Well?" I asked feeling impatient.
"I... Erm," she started to stutter.
My heart sank. Just as I was about to open my mouth, to comfort her, a beam of lightness shone on her face, with her eyes widening in pure delight.
"I got three A's," she chimed, waving her paper in front of me.
I felt a sudden glare of happiness, I could barely conceal my my delight and I pulled her into a tight hug.
