After a long first week of school, it was finally Saturday, feeling elated that I had a break from all the stress and headache of it all.

Since I asked my dad about work, he badgered on about this new partnership. It was Saturday evening and we were getting ready to go to the 'new business partners' house for dinner.

I scanned myself in the mirror, tugging at the dress that sat uncomfortably on my body. I rarely wore dresses, but mum insisted to make an effort.

The bottle green dress hung just over my knees. The ruched bodice showcased my figure. The square neckline wasn't too low, I was counting my lucky stars it didn't have a plunging neckline. The puffy sleeves were allowing my arms to breath, with it being cinched at the wrists. My dark brown hair, was tied into a low ponytail and I paired black ballet flats to complete my look.

My mum peered her head around the door. "Are you ready?"

With no emotion to my face, I nodded, picking up my black side bag and slinging it onto my shoulder.

"I know you and Ava don't want to go, but this is important to your dad. Brian and Mary have been kind to invite us over, and their kids-"

"Kids?" I blurted out.

"Well when Robert was going on and on about this business deal, he said something about kids, I zoned out." My mum chuckled, placing her arm around my shoulder.

"Great I bet they have annoying kids that run around and make you go crazy." I said rolling my eyes.

After leaving the house, we made our way to the car where my dad and Ava were already waiting. From afar I could sense the annoyance radiating from Ava. Her sunken head and straight lips, showcased how I was pretty much feeling.

Getting into the car, Ava slightly brightened up, and mouthed asking if I had my inhaler. Nodding and patting my side bag, I reassured her that I had it, in case of an emergency.

Like me, Ava never was the one to wear dresses. She had the odd one here and there to wear on special occasions. This was one of those days, where she had to retrieve her midi smock dress, black with white floral detailing scattered all over.

As we drove to the house of unknown Brian and Mary, my eyes wandered out of the window. Watching the flurry of lights zoom past, creating a mixture of waves, emitting different colours. I took a mental note of what I was seeing, the artistic side in me felt inspired to paint.

After fifteen minutes of driving, we finally arrived. I gathered my bearings and noticed we entered in a quiet cul-de-sac. We walked up to a detached modern house, ringing the doorbell, we waited.

I side eye towards Ava, who was doing the same. It was like we could read each others mind. My face was telling her to brace herself, as we didn't know what to expect.

The door swung open, to be welcomed by a man roughly the same age as my dad. His hair was slicked back, light brown with specs of grey scattered. He had hooded green coloured eyes, that almost seemed familiar to me. Behind his light grey stubble, he showcased a wide smile, bringing my dad into a hug.
