Chapter Thirty-Three

The odd thing was that those childish fairy tail books I always read instilled the picture-perfect image of love but in reality it wasn't anything like that. It was complicated, it was a trial and error type of thing. You could never be undoubtedly sure because even if you are, time will tell. Looking back to the beginning of the year it was undoubtedly so that it was quite hectic. Meeting Rae, James and Roman was probably the best part to occupy my mind.

I made my way through the familiar gated house. I knocked on the door, waiting patiently. The door opened and I couldn't stop the smile from coming to my face. "Hey Maxie!"

"Hey Kennedy, I haven't seen you in a while." His words trailed off uncomfortably. I really haven't seen him since that day with Roman.

"You have nothing to worry about but I am looking for your brother." He immediately realizes that he's been guarding the door.

"Sorry-" He steps aside letting me walk inside. "He's in his room."

"Thank you, I'll be right back." I assure him with a smile before walking past him and up the stairs. Soft music was playing within the closed door, I gave it a soft knock before coming in. The room looked the same as it always did. Roman was on his bed, looking at his phone but he put it down once he noticed me.

"I came to talk to you." I sat down beside him on the bed, resting my head on the headrest.

He let out a sigh as he shuffled up to sit straight. He seemed to already know what I was going to say because he let out a half hearted chuckle. "I'm guessing I lost?"

I played with my fingers. "You didn't lose."

"But I did- I lost you all on my own."

"I never wanted to hurt your feelings." I felt guilty for officially breaking up with him. I felt as if I was betraying him in some way.

"I know you don't, but I can't keep you as much as I want to." He looked up at the ceiling as if he was accepting it all but I could tell it bothered him.

I laid my head on his shoulder. "You'll be alright, it's not like I'm going to disappear."

He rested his head on mine. "I know, it'll pass. I spent a lot of time thinking over the situation and as much as I love you I can't keep you locked with me if you don't feel the same way. Maybe it was because I thought since I was your first everything you wouldn't leave." I listened to his selfish thoughts, I knew what he meant and he had every right to feel that way because who was I to say naught.

"Just promise that if he breaks your heart you'll come back to me." I let out a loud laugh at his comment.

"Sure." He laughed. "I shouldn't stay here long, you should really come by, king misses you."

"I definitely will."

I shuffled to the edge of the bed and turned to look at him. "I'm going to get going."

"Alright, bye Kennedy." It felt foreign to me that he said my name, he never says it. I didn't know if I felt sad or relieved. The change of the past and the present.

"Bye Roman." I closed his door and made my way down the stairs running into Max.

"Hey Maxie."

"Hey Kennedy." He turned to leave but I wrapped my arms around him from behind before whispering a "Thank you." He stood there accepting the hug, his shoulders slumping as he relaxed. I gave him one final squeeze before letting him go. "I'm not disappearing on you either so you can always talk to me." He gave me a curt nod as a blush tainted his cheeks. Roman was lucky to have a brother like him.
