Chapter 38- The morning after

Vit woke up with mild irritation and decided to head to office to keep himself from thinking about last night with Rukma dancing in his arms. He realized that he had woken up later than usual and quickly bathed and got dressed. The cold shower did dim the passion, but he knew one trigger and he would be burning for her again. He stared at the shrine in his wardrobe for full five minutes and then decided to block this line of thinking and move away.

It was when he reached the breakfast area that he realized that it was Sunday! This meant he will have no recourse to drown himself in work. The family as expected was moving around the dining area and there were multiple conversations going on. Vit prayed at the family temple which was located off the dining area. Family tradition dictated everyone pray to Gods before starting the day. Sunday being a holiday saw almost everyone gathered in the dining area. Vit  tried to fly under the radar when one of the younger lot decided to compliment him.

'That was an awesome performance yesterday. You outshone the groom, you should have seen the way Param was cribbing !' Vit smiled and nodded in thanks. He wanted to kill the conversation before it started.

'Yeah  i never expected you to quote Ghalib! That was a killer couplet!'

'But it was the dance bro, that did it! I loved the way you handled her. You got the best looking bridesmaid!!'

Now Vit was still smiling and thanking the compliments but he was concerned where this conversation was headed.

'I hope you did go far with her!! Did you get her number?' Someone winked. Now many had a mischievous smile. Everyone was all ears to hear Vit's response. They had never seen and heard Vit behaving like this.

'Yes I did manage to get her number. But remember,  I am otherwise engaged.' He smiled and showed his ring to remind everyone.

'So these are the last dregs of freedom before the bondage!!' The teasing continued.

'Or...or in case you want to change your mind, it is not tooooo late.' Everyone was laughing at his expense and the comment was a shock to Vit but even before he could process it or respond to it someone else jumped in.

'In fact,  you disappeared around dinner time and so did she.....did you guys....errr....disappear together?' One of his cousins seemed very well informed.

'I came back to RR after dinner.' Vit was economical with truth.

'Boss! You came back here and we were looking all over the farmhouse for you!', Param had entered the dining area and was already helping himself with breakfast. Uncle was looking at Vit with renewed interest but surely no one else noticed.

'What are you doing here Mr-soon-to-be-married? We thought you would be too tired to get out of bed till late.' Someone teased.

'I think he came here for food, as usual. Poor Vanya (Param's fiance)!'

'Whats the problem, I will bring here for breakfast, whenever we are too tired.' Param said simply not realising the double meaning of his statement.
