"What the fuck?!"
Meadow and Regulus whirled around in panic, finally noticing Velda's presence. Even though the light was dim, Velda saw the shock on Meadow's face while Regulus only clenched his jaw, his eyes fixed on her.
As Velda stepped closer to the pair, her notebook still held tight in her hand, Meadow walked up to her, her hands reaching out for Velda's touch but she took a step back, staring at her friend with a disappointed expression.
"I can explain Vel, I know it might seem weird-"
"Weird?!" Velda shook her head, "You think seeing you, my best friend, with the person I despise most being all friendly is weird? Oh no," she exclaimed, sarcasm dripping from her tongue," Of course I don't think it's weird, confusing and shocking. No, why would I? I think befriending this traitor is the most reasonable thing you could do! It's not like I'd feel betrayed by your actions."
Meadow flinched slightly at her loud voice but Velda didn't care, she didn't care if they got caught outside curfew or if Meadow wasn't used at someone raising their voice at her. The only thing she cared about was the pain in her chest that felt as if her heart was shattering into pieces. It felt like history was repeating itself all over again.
"No Velda, he isn't the person you think he is! A year ago when-"
She interrupted Meadow's voice by slapping Regulus across his face. His head flew to the side and when his eyes turned back towards her, she was getting more and more frustrated by the fact the didn't react in any way. He wasn't guilty, he wasn't angry, he was simply staring at her, even after she slapped him.
"It's all your fault, am I right?!"Against Velda's will her voice began to tremble," You did that to her, right? You lulled her into believing that you are a good person, that you're not the Regulus Black everyone makes you out to be only to crush her heart she gave you with your bare hands. Only to go and talk to your friends about her behind her back because it was all a stupid bet! To gain her trust and shatter it once again to gain acknowledgement by your so-called friends and break her as if she's just another puppet in your play!"
Velda hated how her voice trembled, how she furiously had to wipe away a tear that slipped from her eye. She hated being vulnerable, she hated being vulnerable in front of him.
Velda pushed Meadow behind her back, shielding her from his sight. She willed her to be strong, to push back the tears and regain her strength, "You will never ever lay your eyes on her again or I'll make sure to kill you myself. I will not allow you to play with her heart like you've played with mine."
Regulus just stared at her with his silver eyes, she hated the way they reminded her of the stars around them.
"What do you mean he played with your heart," whispered Meadow behind her.
