11. The Beginning of a Dream

Today is important.

You made sure that you had not forgotten anything important.

You have recently settled in Nimbasa City, after finding your dream job.

And today is your first day in your new position.

A week ago, you visited your new workplace and got to know your future teammates. On the moment, you were elated.

Now, you feel so proud of yourself.

It feels like a dream come true.

Today is an important day.

On your way to Gear Station, you are looking forward to the new day.

You feel like dancing.

You do not want to be swayed by that annoying little idea in the back of your head, whispering to you, "What if you forgot something? Something very important?"

Something important that has yet to come.

No, no, no, everything is in kilter. You have carefully thought of everything, it is your first day at work after all.

One of your Pokémon, by your side, lets out a cry of encouragement.

"Thanks!", you reply with a grateful smile.

You swipe your transport pass on the machine and access the corridor towards the platform.

You really enjoy the Battle Subway. Since your relocation to Nimbasa, you have been Pokémon battling a few times in the facility, and have been impressed by the enthusiasm and talent of some Trainers you have encountered. And it is crowded as ever during the evening rush hour!

You also appreciate the fact that station agents are very implicated in the system.

One of your opponents even told you that if you got several wins in a row, it would be possible to take on the Subway Boss, the strongest Trainer around the city, besides Nimbasa's Gym Leader.

A Pokémon Battle has barely just begun when you enter the car. You and your Pokémon move to a bench a little further away to watch them quietly, before taking out a book.

If the winner offers it, you would be up for a fight.

However, before the end of the battle, you suddenly hear some commotion and realise that the Trainers are fighting between themselves.

"You cheater!"

"Let go of me! Help!"

"Hey, HEY! Stop!", you and your Pokémon intervene, their own Pokémon seemingly a little confused. "What are you doing?"

"I-I... My partner and I won the battle, and that fool went all aggro on me!"

"You didn't win, you cheated! We agreed we wouldn't use any battle items! D'you really think I didn't see you giving that X Attack to your Pokémon?!"

"I don't wanna get in trouble for something as idiotic as using an item on my Pokémon!"

"You're already in trouble, stupid!"

The latter pushes the alleged cheater, so you initiate to separate them.

"Let's do a rematch!", you suggest, determined. "I'll be the referee if you like!"

"Mind your own business! Are you hand in glove with that fraud of a Trainer?!"

Your Pokémon growls to dissuade the Trainer and their Pokémon from approaching.

"Come on now, this is the first time I meet the two of you!", you justify. "The Battle Subway is all about Pokémon Battle, not about egos!"

"Right you are.", a voice raises behind you. Someone delicately places their hand on your shoulder, prompting you to turn around.
