Chapter 18
I could hear the steps behind me trying to catch me, but I threw my lock just as a body hit my door.
“Brianne let me in I want to see!” I heard Pierre whine from the other side.
‘Sorry Pierre not happening. That just wouldn’t be fair to the others.” I giggled.
I sat on the bed and wrapped all the gifts I had bought. Finally when I was done I let Pierre in and helped him wrap his for his family. By the time we were done it was time for dinner and I was so hungry.
“So who cooked?” I asked walking out of the bedroom.
The guys looked at me quizingly.
“Ummm… We were thinking you should cook.” Chuck said with a laugh.
“Lazy bastards. This is revenge isn’t it? I wouldn’t let you guys see your presents so you’re making me cook.” I said throwing my hands up in mock frustration.
I went to the kitchen and quickly threw something together.
After dinner we all sat in the living room playing video games until it was time for bed.
Saying good night to the guys, I grabbed Pierre’s hand and started towards the bedroom but was stopped by Seb.
“Whoa! I don’t care if you guys are dating or w/e you want to call it seeing as it’s only been like a day, but you sleep alone missy!” He insisted grabbing Pierre by the back of the shirt and shoving him on the couch. He gave me an apologetic look and smirked.
“Seb you are so lame!” I protested crossing my arms childishly.
“Yes but I’m your big brother I am allowed to be lame.” He gave me a peck on the cheek and went back to sit down.
“Whatever. Night boys, Dee’s room is now free so feel free to crash in there as well. You guys know where the blankets and pillow are.”
With that I proceeded into my room.
“Lock the door!” I heard Seb yell from the living room, followed by a low cry of pain.
I laughed wondering which one of the guys hit him.
Crawling into bed I thought sleeping would come easy, little did I know that night would be the worse sleep of my life. I laid there for what seemed like forever thinking about the next day. We would be flying to Quebec and I was more scared then I ever had been in my life. I hadn’t been back since the end of the summer before college.
“Brianne Elizabeth Lefebvre. What is this letter about moving to Ontario about?” my mother asked waving a piece of paper in front of my face.
“Where did you find that!?” I screamed. It had been in my dresser drawer hidden under clothes. There was no way she could have found it unless… unless she was snooping.
“I was putting clothes away. Don’t question me, this is about you. What is this?”
“It’s a letter from a school in Ontario. I’m moving there.” I said matter of factly.
“No you are not young lady. You are staying here in Quebec! Wait until your father hears about this.” She screamed stomping off letter in hand.
And this was why I was leaving. I couldn’t take it anymore. Don’t get me wrong I love my parents, but we just don’t see eye to eye on anything. I knew I only had about an hour until my father got home so I packed the things I needed in the few remaining boxes I hid in my closet. School starts in 2 weeks. I had enough money from Nana and Papa to pay for my first year and residence. I would get a part time job to pay for second, keep my grades up and stay in residence for another year and go from there. As I packed I heard my mother in her room. It sounded like she was crying, but that couldn’t be right. After I was done I looked around my room, it was covered in Simple Plan posters, ticket stubs, writing from the guys and the picture we had taken the year before at the beach. I walked over to the picture unpinned it from my wall and glanced at it.
“Thanks for letting me down guys.” I whispered as I ripped into pieces and throwing the pieces on the ground. I walked over to my desk and took a piece of paper and pen and started to write.
As I finished the letter I heard footsteps heading down the stairs. I knew my mother was on her way to pick up my father as his car was in the shop for a tune up. This was my time. I had to go now. Hearing the car pull out of the driveway I called the moving truck and they arrived in minutes. Checking my watch I knew I had 30 minutes to get everything packed. I let the men do their work as I packed my car.
“Meme we’re done packing are you ready?” I heard a voice behind me.
“Yes let’s go.” I replied looking back at my watch, 5 minutes to go. Making good time. I jumped in my car and got ready to head to the airport. As I started my car I heard the phone ring inside and hesitated, but soon shook my head and left the driveway. Leaving my family home behind never to see it again.
That had been years ago and it was true I hadn’t been back and I had not spoken to my parents since. I had left them with a note and that was that. Now tomorrow I was heading back to face my reality I guess. This scared me more than anything else in the world. I turned over and looked at the clock 3:00 am flashed back at me in bright red letters. Our plane left at noon and I still hadn’t gotten any sleep. Just then I heard my door opened.
