46. After

Mira was quiet the whole way home.  Dom and I wondered what it was but didn't want to push her.

We will talk about it.  Was all she said.  She didn't look at me once the whole way there.  I knew whatever they said blew her mind.

Once we walked inside they all crowded around us for answers.

Dom looks around the room making sure we were all present before finally focusing in on Mira.  The one that had all the answers.  Mira?  He finishes.

Russia isn't going to work.  She watches as the hope begins to drain from each and every face staring at her.

You are all free.  Right now in this moment. Free to love one another she said looking at Letty and Dom.  Free to hold and raise your children she said looking at Mia and Brian.  Free to embrace one another as brothers she states looking over at Teij and Roman. Free to follow your hearts and even take back your lives she says looking at Han and DK.  But right now is the only time I can say with a guarantee that this can be true.

There it was.  Questions, concerns, and doubt flooded in around me like a tidal wave.  They all stammered forward with uncertainty and I so wanted to give it to them.

They can end us or you can all go your own way but it can't be here.  They won't allow it. Mira says sadly.  The bearer of bad news.  That what she was.  Thats what she was always going to be.  It followed her around like a bad stench.

They could wipe us out so why havnt they? What do they want?  Letty finally speaks.

They have rules. Mira said  Whomever takes out there stupid assasin replaces them.  They all looked confused.

They want you to be the assasin.  Roman states.

We can always leave together.  They can try to stop us but there power is russia.  If we go will they follow? Ramsey was throwing out ideas maybe just concerns.

Everyone started to argue at once and noise of that echoed and bounced off every surface.

I don't think they are going to just let me leave.  Thats my opinion.  I'm putting all of you at risk.  I have been from the start.  Dont you think I should make this decision.

I thought the point was to stay together.  D took her by the hand

Not at the expense of your lives.  We have lost so much already.  I can't.  Then Mira shuts herself off getting quiet again. 

Dom stands in the center to address everyone. 

Look I get what your all saying but this is my family we need to decide what's best for us and your a part of that now.  You want to keep us safe I get that but its more than we are willing to give up.  Guys we always fight.  Thats who we are.  We have lost others but we always have each others back.  We are family we stick together so no Mira this isnt just your decision.  At that I shot my glance towards her.  She had defeat in her expression.

We can fight these Oligarchs.  They are just men.  Flesh and blood they bleed like we do.  How many are they do you think.  Han asks.

Too many probably and we don't know how to hurt them.  Roman states.

Russia is a step above anything we have ever gone up against.  Sure we have handled ourselves against drug cartel, even police but this goes beyond anything we've gone up against.  You have heard of Russian roulette well this is it.  Its suicide.  Brian was right.

I think the only thing to do is leave.  Mia was scared as she pulled her children close.  Children yes and the only answer a protective mother could muster.

So russia is a no.  I've been working out other options and the only place we can be together is home.  It isn't pretty and its not what all of you particularly want but it is what we know best.  It means we stay together.  Tej was right and it seemed everyone was in agreement.

Well there was a plan at least and even still I could tell she just wanted to take matters into her own hands. She never was good at letting things play out.  She didnt really want to be an assasin.  She could handle it of course but to say goodbye to everything she knew was just too damn difficult and I knew she didn't want to say goodbye to the only thing she ever loved in the world. A part of me was relieved that the choice was taken from her. 

With all the bickering I realised that something was off.  My eyes skimmed the room.  Everyone around still arguing but something was definitely missing. I finally realised that my best friend wasn't around.  I went looking.  Morimoto always hated confrontation and probably scurried off to work on a car or something. I made it to the garage that was still empty and he wasn't working alone so where was he.  I went to his room and his stuff still sat untouched. I looked everywhere but he was nowhere to be found.

Hey anyone seen Morimoto lately.  No body knew and so I found Mira to speak to her about the situation.

Where is he.

I'm sure he's around somewhere.

No I've looked everywhere Mira.  When was the last time you saw him?

She took a seat so that she could concentrate.  I could tell she was replaying things over in her mind.. Before we left to meet the Russians why?  You think I had something to do with it?

Your being paranoid.  I am just worried is all.

We both stared at one another.  It was the first time we were unable to talk about the issues.  Neither one of us had any answers and it was just us now.  Things were bad. He was gone and that made me very uncomfortable.  This meant he went looking for answers on his own.  Where would he go?

He's been on my case about speaking with his people at that university.  His father had friends there.  Some scientists that owned a small airport runway.  Maybe he went there.  We both understood the danger in that theory.
