It was a couple of days before court and everyone could tell Amy's anxiety was through the roof. She was having trouble sleeping and wouldn't let Iris out of her sight for anything. Draven was constantly on high alert and Oreo was glued to Iris as well. They could tell her over and over that everything would be okay but they knew it would do no good. Until she knew for absolute certainty that there was no chance of Mason taking Iris from her she would continue to stress. They understood that she needed to hear it from the judge himself for her to believe it so they just tried to help anyway they could. Hence, the suggestion from Luke to go to the park to let Amy play and feed the ducks, as well as walk the dogs and have a change of scenery for just a little bit.
"This is nice," Amy smiled softly as she held Luke's hand. "I'm glad you thought of this."
"I'm glad Cupcake," He smiled as they watched Oreo remain by Iris' side as she walked just slightly ahead of them. He refused to let her run which Amy was glad for.
"I wish the others could have joined us but I understand they are super busy," She admitted softly. "But I also like this one on one time also, is that wrong?"
"Not at all," He smiled softly, "It means you understand and accept that we are individuals and not always just one group. It's not playing favorites, Cupcake, it's you having a relationship with each of us as well as all of us. If it makes you feel better I'll talk to Marc and Kota about making sure you have time with each of us so you can make sure your brain doesn't make you start to worry about favoritism, okay?" He asked and she smiled gratefully.
"Thank you Luke," She hugged him then kissed him softly.
"Always, Cupcake," He chuckled.
"You say that so much I'm going to start calling you that," She giggled.
"I'll take that," He grinned. "I like it."
"Mommy, Daddy, wook!" Iris called out as she pointed to the ducks.
"Oh wow," Amy smiled as Luke pulled out the small container of birdseed and oats that Axel made the night before when Luke was talking to him about possibly going to the park today to get them out of the house and get Amy's mind off the upcoming court date.
"Here take a handful, toss it to the ducks and watch," Luke helped her and Amy took a video from Luke's phone so they could show the others later on. Plus, she wanted to capture this sweet moment between Luke and Iris together.
"Is it always this empty?" Amy asked Luke when he came back over to her.
Luke shrugged, "I don't know, honestly," He said looking around, "We've never been here before since we really didn't have a reason to. Max is usually content being at the house or in the backyard. But if you think about it, it is a weekday so everyone is probably working and it is noon so it's lunch time and the hottest time of the day so it makes sense that there's no one here."
"Yeah," She nodded, "That makes sense."
"We are fine Cupcake," he smiled softly, "You've got me, your own personal ninja and two trained protection dogs plus an overprotective golden retriever who has claimed our daughter as his baby."
"You're right," She laughed since Max had put himself in front of Iris preventing her from taking another step closer to the pond or let the ducks come closer to her since Oreo was by her side watching the ducks. She hugged him, "thank you, Always."
"Anytime Cupcake," He smiled into her hair.
"Swide Daddy!" Iris called out as she started to go towards the playground. "Swide peas!"
"Duty calls," He chuckled and Amy beamed as he picked up Iris and tossed her up in the air a few times making her squeal in excitement.
Amy watched fondly as Luke watched her carefully climb the equipment on her own with Oreo watching while Max followed happily behind Iris. Luke rushed to the bottom of the slide and caught her then let Oreo sniff her all over making sure she was okay then Iris burst into laughter as Max slid down the slide also. Amy laughed as she recorded this happen a few times.
Draven whined and she smiled, "Go on Draven, I'm okay," She said softly patting his head. He walked off ahead of her and started going to the bathroom.
"I told you I would have our family sooner or later," A deep voice said behind her as she felt something in her back and a hand wrapped around her stomach. As she lowered the phone, she hit the red button the guys told her to hit if at any time she got scared.
"Draven," She gasped making Draven look up from the tree he was sniffing. He growled and started barking as he rushed to her.
She felt her back suddenly burn then become wet as everything started to go dark. The last thing she heard were all three dogs barking become louder and louder than everything went black and silent.
