I nearly topple into the water before I end up falling on my back.

Travis is at my side in an instant, pushing me up by the shoulders. "Addy, what happened?"

Before I can answer that question, a head rises out of the water. Tan skin is pulled back in a scowl. The man's blue eyes glare at me and then Hanna, before settling on Travis. Water droplets reflect off the head of black hair. He pushes himself onto platform, his muscles flexing. He can't be too much older than Travis.

"Levi." Travis uses his grip on my shoulders to guide me behind him.

"Travis, I see you brought your sister and," his eyes narrow at me, "your. . . girlfriend."

I don't blush. I guess Hanna was like a vaccine, and now I'm immune to this.

"She's not."

"Get them off the beach."

I hear a faint rumbling in Travis' chest. That didn't sound good. At least not healthy.

Hanna steps in front of us. "You can't tell us to leave. You don't own this beach. We're residents here."

"Hanna." Travis grabs her and drags her behind him next to me. "On who's orders?" Travis asks him.

The home owners association?

"Xavier ordered Brooks who called me. So it looks like you better get these little pests out of here."

I bite my lip, keeping my anger down. Hanna's mouth hangs open, but I think Travis looks like he takes it the worst. He looks like he wants to kill the guy.

"Don't you ever call my sister that."

"Fine. Get the vermin out of here, or I'll do it myself."

Travis punches Levi on the jaw, causing Levi to stumble back toward the edge of the platform. I cover my mouth while Hanna cheers her brother on.

Levi shakes his head.

"Hanna, Addy, get to the car now and get back to the house."

"But I've never driven on these types of roads," Hanna protests.

I grab her hand and start pulling her to the other side of the platform.

Travis doesn't look back at us. "You're safer doing that than being here—"

Levi grabs him and tries pushing him to the ground.

Hanna struggles in my grip. "I'm not leaving you."

"Don't worry—" Travis causes both of them to topple in the water, their splash causing us to get wet.

"Hanna, you heard Travis."

She faces me. "I can't do it. I can't leave him."

Eliza. I couldn't leave her.

"There's nothing you can do."

"But—"

"He'll be fine."

Levi's and Travis' heads pop up briefly, before they dunk each other under again.

"We have to get your parents or someone."

She nods, seeming to finally understand, and we both dive into the water and breast stroke back to shore. We're both panting when we reach it, and we don't exactly receive a warm welcoming committee. They stare at us, their faces scowling.

"My brother. . .he's drowning."

Their faces don't change. A few glance toward the platform.

I shake my head and pull Hanna toward the car, past our stuff. I glance at her, and she has tears pouring down her face.

Two boys our age suddenly step in front of us. "Where are you going?" the blond on the right asks.

"Leaving," I answer.

They trade looks.

"Why?" The other one, who's taller, steps forward.

I back up, my grip on Hanna's wrist tightening.

Hanna on the other hand tries pulling her hand loose, but it kind of gets stuck, and she ends up shaking her arm uselessly. With reluctance she stops and turns her attention on their amused faces. "My brother is drowning. No one is doing anything to help. So whether it be the police, my parents, or the Easter Bunny I will bring help back to my brother."

The blond looks furious, though I don't know why. "You will—"

"Addy, what's going on?"

I drop Hanna's hand and look up, seeing Hunter running toward us, his eyebrows pulled tight.

"Seth, Logan, get away from them." He steps through them, pushing them aside. "Addy, where's Travis? Why are you alone? I thought I said—"

"Travis is in the water fighting." I point as well as Hanna to the platform.

His eyes flash with panic. "Get home, and I'll handle this."

"Thank you." Hanna nearly hugs him, but I pull her to the car.

I know most people would have just mistakingly referred to the cabin as my home. But with Hunter he could have just as easily meant my real home, and that bothers me.

Once we're both in the front seats, Hanna stares at the steering wheel. Her hands hover in the air, shaking.

"Go."

"I've never driven on mountain roads before."

"Go slow."

She chokes on a sob. "But Travis—"

"Do you want me to drive?"

She nods, and we switch seats. I reach in the back and grab my glasses, before backing out of the parking space and pulling out onto the gravel road. Okay, I've never driven on mountain roads. But how hard can it be?

I make sure to go slow and hug the cliff. On turns I specifically pay attention to the corner I'm heading toward. Luckily I pass no cars. When I reach the driveway I stare at it warily.

"You're doing great, Addy." Her voice is weak. I understand why she's worried. travis isn't the biggest guy, and the Levi dude was huge.

I keep my foot on the break and only release it slightly to roll down the hill. At last I can put it in park, and I lean back with a sigh, my eyes closed.

Hanna yelps, causing me to jump, and my eyes to fly open.

I must have been paying attention to only the road, instead of my surroundings.

Because somehow I missed him.

Them.

Somehow I missed Travis and Hunter leaning against the wall of the porch.
