"I really should get going. I have an early morning ahead." Your cousin said as he stood up from the chair he was sitting in. "I had a lot of fun today."

"Same here. It was nice getting to catch up after being so busy and not seeing each other for so long." You said as you also stood up, watching as he grabbed his jacket and his shoes.

"Hey, I have a day off next weekend. Want to hang out again then?"

"Sure!" You happily said.

Once he had his jacket and shoes on, he opened his arms for you so he could get a quick hug.

But just a second after you leaned in for a hug, you heard a knock at your front door.

"Who could be here at almost eleven at night?" He wondered and you shrugged before going to the door.

You turned the knob and opened it and your heart skipped a beat when you saw Lily standing there.

"Lily!"

Your cousin grinned as he came to stand beside you.

"Oh, hi. So you're Lily."

Lily tried to hide the slight pang of sadness she was feeling, her mind already jumping to conclusions.

"You know, Lily, I've heard a lot about you."

He turned to look at you, a smirk tugging at his lips.

You're so close with your cousin that you've always considered each other to be best friends more than anything else and even after all of these years, that hasn't changed.

With that being said, he's the one you tend to open up to about everything, including your crush on Lily.

So when you saw him smirk at you, you knew what he was thinking without him even having to say it.

"Y/N, isn't there something you wanted to talk to Lily about?"

You chuckled nervously as you looked between the two of them.

"I think you should do that. Now seems like a good time, don't you think?"

You put your palm against your forehead, hoping that he wouldn't outright tell Lily about your crush on her as they locked eyes.

You have the biggest crush on her, falling harder for her than you have for anyone before.

But she's your best friend and has been for months.

You're afraid to confess, afraid that you might ruin things with her.

"Well, I will see you next week." He said before stepping out, winking at you as he got into his car and drove away.

"Come in." You told Lily and closed the front door behind her as she stepped inside your home. "It's late. Is everything alright?"

She was quiet as her back faced you.

She didn't want you to see her face at that moment as she blinked away the tears stinging her eyes and she bit her lip so hard she thought it might bleed.

She had so many different ideas running through her brain about who that guy was and what he could've been talking about.

"Lily?" You softly spoke as you put your hand on her shoulder, causing her to jump and spin around to face you. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to startle you."

She brushed her fingers through her short hair, tucking a lock of it behind her ear as she continued to bite her lip while continuing to overthink the situation.

"Are you alright?"

"If I ask you something, will you please be honest with me?"

Her question took you by surprise but, nonetheless, you nodded.

"Is that guy your boyfriend?"

"What?" You asked in both shock and disgust.

"Are you dating? Is he your boyfriend?"

"Ew, no. Gross." You quickly answered, your nose wrinkled in pure disgust at the thought. "Why do you ask that?"

She wordlessly shrugged her shoulders and then stared at the floor, only for you to gently lift her chin with your fingers.

Your eyes met hers and you both felt as though you could barely breathe, though neither of you confessed that.

"Lily, what's going on?"

"I was coming over here to talk to you. I was chatting with the girls about different things. We were having deep conversations because we were bored and the topic of people that we like came up. I confessed who I liked but said I was too afraid to say that and the girls encouraged me that I should do it before it's too late to make my feelings known..."

She paused and exhaled shakily as she closed her eyes.

"It's you, y/n. You're the one that I like. I like you a lot. But then I saw that guy and I thought, maybe, I was too late to tell you that."

It was quiet for a few seconds before you started to giggle, causing Lily to frown.

"You're laughing?"

"Not at you. I promise." You said as you put your hands on her shoulders. "That guy that you think is my boyfriend is my cousin."

"Oh," She said. "Well, that explains why you looked so grossed out when I asked you if you were dating him."

"Yeah," You agreed before you both laughed. "I also find it kinda funny because for so long, I've felt the same way. I was just telling him tonight about how much I like you. That's why he said I had something to talk to you about."

She gently placed her hand on your cheek, her soft brown eyes staring into yours.

"I just felt so afraid that I'd somehow mess things up between us."

"Never." She said as she brushed  her thumb across your cheek. "I really like you."

"I really like you too." You smiled before she leaned in and kissed your lips.

You've dreamt about this moment quite a lot but it was even more incredible than you thought it would be and you melted into her kiss and the feeling of her soft lips against yours as she deepened the kiss just a tiny bit.

But, a moment later, when you both needed a little air into your lungs, you pulled away.

She smiled brightly at you, her arms wrapped around you to hold you close.

"Wow," She chuckled. "That's the best kiss I've ever had."

"Same here." You grinned before kissing her again, wishing that this moment would never end.
