"So, what's going on? Why did you want to meet up today?" Your friend asked as she sat across from you and Lily.

You looked at Lily with the brightest smile on your face as she squeezed your hand.

"Lily and I are getting engaged!"

"What?" Your friend asked with a confused expression and a chuckle.

"We've been talking lately and even though she's so busy with NMIXX and has so much going on, we want to get married. We've been talking a lot about it lately and it just feels right. So, we're going to get engaged soon."

"Isn't the engagement supposed to be a surprise?" Your friend asked with a snotty smile on her face, making Lily frown. "Besides, you're rushing things!"

"Rushing things? We've been together for almost three years. We've been together before she even debuted and JYP still let her be in the group, even with their dating ban. They're supportive. Why aren't you?" You asked.

"You're so young, it won't last. I bet if you get married by the end of the year, you'll be divorced by the beginning of it."

Her words hurt and she was reacting the complete opposite way of what you expected.

"That's not very supportive," Lily said. "You're her best friend. If anyone should be supportive of us and this next step we want to take, it should be you. I've already told the girls about it and they couldn't be happier."

"So you told them before you told me?" Your friend scoffed at you.

"It's only because we couldn't meet up until today and Lily is around them every day." You explained. "And don't change the subject. Lily is completely right. We've been friends for years. How could you not support us?"

She was silent and as she stared at the table.

"Well?" You pushed a little further.

"Because... I like Lily, okay? And I don't think you belong with her. I think she could do better."

Your best friend's confession was shocking and devastating.

"You're joking, right?" You asked as you began to laugh, thinking it was some sort of unfunny joke.

"Not even in the slightest. The day you two met, I was going to ask her out, but you beat me to it and I've always been upset at you about it. I've hid it from you and well, may I add. But now, you're talking about getting engaged!? That should be me with her!"

"Look, I'm sorry but that will never happen. Because I'm in love with Y/N and she is all I want. I want to marry her, I want to grow old with her, and I want to have a family with her someday. I don't want that with anyone else. It's never going to happen, so you need to let it go and be a better friend!"

"Whatever." Your friend grumbled. "Screw you, Y/N. You're the absolute worst. I'll never know what she sees in you. Good riddance."

She got up and stormed out of the restaurant as some people watched on, having overheard her before she left.

"Well... that didn't go at all as I had planned." You said with sadness in your voice.

"Are you okay, my love?"

"I guess so. I mean, it hurts because she was supposed to be my best friend. But not anymore."

"If that's how she felt and how she treats you, then you deserve better friends. We're going to live a long and happy life together, whether she likes it or not."

"I know." You said with a smile as she brought your hand to her lips for a kiss.

"Friends are supposed to be supportive, like the girls were. And until you find more friends, better friends, you have them as your best friends."

"And you."

"Yes, and me, always." She grinned. "I can't wait to marry you."

"I can't wait to marry you too, Lily. I love you."

You shared a kiss as she smiled against your lips and repeated the words back to you.

And when you pulled away, you put your head on her shoulder, knowing that part of your life with your so-called best friend was now over and done.

But your future was still bright without her.

You have Lily, you have the girls, and you have a great family.

Lily was right, anyway; someday soon, you'd make better friends than she had been to you.

Ones that are supportive of you and ones that will cheer you on no matter what life holds.

And you couldn't wait for them to come around.
