she comforts you after a nightmare

Sweat rolled down your skin as you sat up in bed, struggling to catch your breath as your heart pounded against your chest.

You still vividly remembered the terrible nightmare that you'd had and as the memory of it lingered, your heart hammered harder in your chest.

You looked over and saw that Lily was still sleeping peacefully beside you and as much as you hated waking her since she needs her sleep, you felt as though you had no other choice.

Reaching out for her, you gently shook her awake.

"Lily? Lily, please wake up." You pleaded as you shook her.

She groaned at first but as you pleaded with her again and she heard your shaky voice, she quickly awoke.

"Lily, please."

Turning the lamp on, she sat up in bed and looked at you to find tears in your eyes.

"What happened?"

"I had a bad dream." You said as you trembled. "It was terrible, Lily."

"Oh, baby," She spoke softly before pulling you into her arms. "It's okay. I've got you."

"It was so awful. I dreamt that someone broke in and hurt you and," You paused as you began to breathe unevenly once more.

"Shh." She shushed softly. "It's alright, baby. You don't have to tell me about it if you don't want to. I've got you."

You held onto her tightly as you buried your face in her neck, breathing in her comforting scent as you tried to calm down and breathe.

"You're safe, baby, and so am I. No one's going to hurt us. You're okay, just try and relax." She said as she laid her head on yours and brushed her hand across your back.

You closed your eyes and took in a few deep but shaky breaths as you began to find comfort in her embrace.

"I'm here, right here." She soothed.

"I love you." You spoke softly. "Please don't let me go."

"I won't, darling. I'm not going to let you go, I promise." She whispered as she continued to hold you. "And I love you more."

You cracked a small smile and clung to her, squeezing her as tight as she was squeezing you.

"Do you feel any better?"

"A little." You said. "But I still feel scared."

"You don't have anything to be scared about. I won't let anything happen to you. You're safe, sweet girl."

She slowly laid back and pulled you down with her.

Her legs became tangled with yours and she grabbed your hand with one of hers while her other rested on your back as she held you in her arms.

"Just relax. I'm here." She said and watched you close your eyes as she brushed her fingers across your palm. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah. I'm okay." You said as you opened your eyes again. "But I don't think I'm going to get back to sleep."

"That's okay. We'll stay awake together." She smiled.

"Lily, baby, you have a busy day tomorrow."

"But my girl needs me and that comes first." She smiled, making you do the same. "Besides, it's after four. I have just a couple of hours before I got to go for the day. I want to spend them with you."

"Okay." You smiled.

"Come here. Lay your head on my chest." She said and you did just that before listening to her heartbeat. "I love you so much."

"I love you too, Lily."
