Judy's pov
The clock ticked and tocked allowing the room to create a daunting atmosphere and poor Mary looked uncomfortable

"So" I began glancing at both Mary and Johnathon "may I get you both something to drink" I offered hoping to warm the room

"Oh no thank you" Mary shook her head and Johnathon mimicked

"Well what seems to be on your minds" I asked hoping to throw whatever awkward feelings my friends were experiencing out

"Judy we've decided to move away from Chicago " Johnathon finally answered however Mary looked uncomfortable

"That sounds like an exciting adventure for you both and your children!" I exclaimed trying to hide my disappointment

"Why are you always so supportive, Judy?" Mary inquired.

"What do you mean?" I asked. Her question had taken me by surprise

"You are our best friend Judes doesn't it bug you that we won't be around any more" she asked

"I'll be heartbroken, but if it means your family is happy, healthy and safe then I'm willing to go visit you guys anywhere!" I replied  Mary started crying and gave me a hug, it took everything in my power not to cry.

"Well we haven't found a place in mind so for now you're still stuck with us." Mary pointed out

"I'll take all the time I can get!" I laughed

Lydia's pov
I sat on my bed and stared out my window wondering what to do next. I felt cheated. It wasn't supposed to be like this. We were supposed to get married, have children grow old and quietly die. Together. He fought, he lived, he came home. He should be free from war. I should be helping him through this.

I could feel my cheeks burn as a couple of tears escaped and I leaned against the window pane.
without a warning I heard my door slowly creep open when I turned my head I saw a very sad Lucy she trudged to my bed and crawled up beside me I wrapped her under my blanket with me and she snuggled in

"Can't see the clouds from my window" she whispered tears slowly rolling off her cheeks

"Its okay I can share" I replied realizing how selfish I was not noticing my heart wasn't the only one that was broken

" do you think grandma is with Grandpa Swills and Grandpa" Lucy asked this time a little louder than her whispers

I rubbed her arm and kissed her forehead " I do" I assured her as we both looked out the window

"I miss her, she'd always steal me away every Friday we'd shop for clothes and get lunch. I wonder what will happen to America now that she's gone?  Will there have to be an election ?" Lucy babbled

"An election? For what?" I asked wondering if I misunderstood her

"For the new president of the United States!" She replied staring at me like I was daf

"Lucy grandma Swills wasn't the president Franklin D Roosevelt was until last year now Harry Truman is our new president" I explained

"She had to be the president LyLy. She always had money, she was very classy, everyone knew her or she knew them, and the men always would get the doors for her and pull her chair out for her!" She protested
I couldn't help but smile

"Lucy, grandma Swills wasn't the president but she was a very classy lady who deserved the respect given to her." I told her before we let the silence take over the room with random moments of Lucy seeing different shapes in the clouds.

Every now and then she would ask rather immense questions for her age. I could tell with her questions she was going places when she got older and not to any finishing school. No she was a scholar and I knew that's why grandma swills took the time to build a relationship with her despite her friends judging the timing of little Lucy being an almost out of wedlock baby from a interracial relationship. .
