A rave is being held in Portland, Oregon where popular DJ Retchid Kat is disc jockeying. At the same time, a string quartet with Sarah Jennings, Carter Brimley, Trey Harrison and Marvin are practicing Saint-Saëns's Danse macabre which translates to Dance of Death under the direction of Ray Carr at the Von Hamelin Music Institute. Later that evening Carr enters his car and finds rats inside, which start attacking him. The next morning school principal Grace Kaplan fins Carr dead inside his car with rats walking on his partially eaten body and calls 911. The police arrive and discover cages labelled "Geiger Pest Control" in the bushes.

While interrogating the members of the quartet, Nick and Hank learn that there was a student, Roddy Geiger, who was suspended a few days earlier. Sarah claims that Roddy wouldn't do something like that.

Arriving at the Geiger home, Nick and Hank hear violin music coming from a shed nearby. Roddy is discovered playing where rats are in cages, listening. His father, Ephram Geiger, accuses them of coming to arrest and hurt them, woging into a Reinigen just before he tries to strike Hank for grabbing Roddy. Roddy sees Nick's a Grimm and instantly distrusts him, accusing Nick of wanting to kill him before attacking him. Both are arrested soon after.

Ephram Geiger claims he was in the mountains during the time of attack. Claiming the cages were stolen and that students at school never let his son forget about their lack of wealth, and claims Roddy is a prodigy. During Roddy's interrogation, details about his suspension surface. Suspended for attacking Carter and Trey, which he admits to saying "Yeah, I attacked after they jumped me". Also admitting that he was at the rave the night before with one person who can alibi him. The person reveals that Roddy is DJ Retchid Kat, letting Roddy go.

Doctor Harper calls Nick and Hank informing them that Dr. Carr didn't die of rats, but of a heart attack.

Sara goes back to Roddy who is watching a car and obviously aggravated as he woges into his other form. Sarah gets out of the car and Roddy tells her that the cops have his dad and that the person who did this wanted the police to think it was one of the Geiger's. Sarah says that everyone thinks that and says that it makes sense and that Carr was the one that got him out of the quartet. Roddy says that it's bogus and she knows it. She says that they're her friends, and when he asks her what he is, she claims that he's someone she used to care about. Roddy kisses her and says that she still loves him, but Sarah says that she can't keep sneaking out to be with him before pushing him away. Asking if he didn't put the rats in the car then who did and Roddy accuses Carter. She refuses to believe it, however, and they are interrupted by Sarah's mother who tells Roddy to stay away from her daughter. He meets Carter on his way out and steps forward threateningly, but Carter has his phone already dialed to 911 with a smug look on his face. Roddy hits the car window before walking away angrily.

Walking in with a report about the fibers found at the scene came from blankets and an expensive German car. Also Sarah's mother walks in questioning why Roddy hasn't been arrested, accusing him of harassing Sarah, and that they need to get evidence that Roddy is guilty of the murder, and claiming he doesn't belong at the school. Hank asks "Or your neighborhood?" avoiding the subject, she asks why they aren't writing anything down since she's filing a report. After she walks away Hank claims "I haven't had that much fun since that drunk threw up on me at the Christmas party".

The quartet are playing with Roddy in place of Carter, which Monroe compliments him on his music. Claiming he's a friend of Detective Burkhardt, the door is immediately begins to close. Catching it partially woging and shows his Wesen form. Roddy backs away in fear, and Monroe quickly explains that Nick's not like other Grimms and he's worried about him. Before leaving he complements his talent, and says "don't be stupid".

Unknown to both Monroe and Nick, Roddy gets a call from Officer Clay claiming that his father was injured when he refused to enter the cell. Roddy destroys his room in anger, and the next day unleashes the rats and packs up his violin and Retchid Kat head before heading to a warehouse with the rats following, accidentally leaving a set fire behind.

Carter, Trey and Marvin talk about the rats and how Sarah is now suspicious of them, each get messages of Retchid Kat playing and decide to go.

After being granted a search warrant, Nick and Hank search Carter's SUV while being pestered by Carter's father and find a school banner with rat dropping matching the fibers found. They head to Sarah's house and find her phone with a text about Retchid Kat playing at a warehouse on Front Street.

Arriving thinking they're early, the quartet follow the music headed downstairs just as Nick and Hank arrive. In the warehouse, Retchid Kat stops playing and claims they were the ones who killed Carr causing Sarah to realize the truth. Retchid Kat starts playing the violin revealing it's Roddy, as the rats start attacking them. The boys escape as Sarah falls and continues to be swarmed by the rats. Roddy stops the music right before Hank runs in and shoots his gun upward causing the rats to disperse. Nick runs to Sarah getting the remaining rats off her and holds her as she cries into his shirt.

The boys admit that they did it claiming it was only suppose to scare Dr. Carr and make it seem like Roddy did it. Sarah claims that Roddy was better than all of them and asks them to tell Roddy she's sorry. Hank says tell him yourself.

Trying to write the report, they let Roddy off the hook seeing as it was doubtful that anyone would believe them and no one forced the four to go down there.

Nick learns that his presence is beginning to affect the Wesen world  when the refrigerator repairman turns out to be an Eisbiber who's terrified of Nick.
