Koraline finally got away from him.
She was young, dumb, and completely naive. He somewhat took advantage of that. He was way older and more mature than she was. What the hell was she thinking? Oh, right! She wasn't.
She was so wrapped up in what he was and who he was that what he was capable of didn't even phase her, terrify her. It should have, she should have listened to everyone who was warning her against them.
She decided to break things off with him so that she could continue to pursue her education. She wanted to be somebody. She wanted to accomplish her dreams. She didn't even let him know where she was headed. Being with him would have hindered that, so she left. He tried to be calm for her sake but she could tell that he was extremely angry, by the dark and empty look in his eyes.
He pleaded for her not to leave. That she promised she would never leave him. She didn't care about her promise then, because they were meant to be broken.
She just hoped he wouldn't do anything stupid.

She was so wrapped up in him and his world that when it was time to get back to the real world, it felt different. It looked different. Heck, it even tasted different. She was with him for two years.
She left her small hometown about two months ago, to attend a prestigious but small college in the next state over, where she began to live her new life. She got into a routine and even started making a couple of new friends.
Her closest ones are her roommate Réya and her boyfriend, Cameron.
As she was exiting her Anthropology class, she heard the sirens before she saw them. Koraline began to panic, wondering what was going on. She saw a steadily growing crowd up ahead by a couple of rose bushes in the college's flower garden.
She was still nervous and panicked but her curiosity won. She went over to investigate, clutching her textbooks to her chest, as she hoisted her bag onto her shoulder properly. She rushed over to where everyone else was.
When she was close enough, she gasped in absolute horror. It was a body. A dead body. She began paling to an almost deadly shade of white. She looked sick to her stomach and as she went even closer, she realized that it was an acquaintance of hers.
A boy named Daniel Jameson.
He didn't deserve this, she thought as she started to silently weep.
By this time, the police and ambulance had arrived. The police ushered the shocked and slightly frozen students further away from the crime scene, to reduce the risk of any form of contamination. They didn't even put up a fight.
They put the "DO NOT CROSS" tape around the perimeter of the crime scene and started gathering evidence from the body and the surrounding areas.
Koraline was somehow able to hear the Medical Examiner when she said that she had never seen that type of two-pronged puncture wound before. She also said it looked like he was completely drained of blood as he looked almost skeletal. She paled further.
A man in a suit with a badge clipped to his belt came over to her.
She silently wondered who he was and why he decided to approach her, instead of the other on-lookers.
"Miss, are you okay? I am Detective Hannigan and if you're up for it, I'd like to ask you a few questions." He said as he held out his hand for a handshake.
She saw the pity in his eyes but she decided to shake his hand, even though she didn't want to.
"Of course, I'm not okay! No one deserves to die that way!" She started to shout at him but she realized that the other students were turning in their direction, so she lowered her tone.
"Miss..."
"Jenkins," replied Koraline.
"Miss Jenkins, is there any place we can go to speak a bit more privately? As you can see, there are a lot of prying eyes and ears."
"Sure, I'll lead you," she said in a resigned manner, as she wiped her nose with a napkin that Detective Hannigan handed to her.
She lead him to the grey canopy that was deserted around the curve of the crime scene, away from the chaos of the crime scene.
He proceeded to ask her questions and she responded in this order,
Det. Hannigan: What is the identity of the victim?
Koraline: His name was Daniel Jameson...
Det. Hannigan: How'd you know him?
Koraline: He is, was, an acquaintance of mine. We also had a couple of classes together.
Det. Hannigan: Do you know anyone who'd want to hurt Mr. Jameson?
Koraline: I'm not too sure. I didn't know him that well.
Det. Hannigan continued to ask her more questions but it appeared that she was completely clueless, so he told her if she thought of anything else that she should call him. He left her with his card and found someone else to interrogate.
She placed her head on the canopy's bench that she didn't even realize that she had managed to sit on. Her head was running with wild possibilities but she tampered them down.
She had never seen a dead body before. It was traumatizing.
