Her eyes slowly opened and she was automatically blinded by the bright lights. She tried to lift her hand to cover her eyes but it didn't reach far because of the wires connecting to her skin.
It finally registered. Wires? Bright lights? Where was she?
Her heart monitor started to race and beep loudly. Suddenly, a shadow moved from the corner of the room, coming in her direction.
She backed away from them because she still couldn't see who it was. Koraline started clearing her throat. It was starting to burn her, she was so thirsty.
The person seemed like they knew exactly what was happening so in a calm voice, they said, "Koraline, it's me. Jaxon...here have some water."
Her hand shook as she took the cup with the straw he offered and she drank the cool water like she was in a hot desert for days without water. Her throat was soothed.
As she looked into his face, she realized that he had bruises and swelling on his skin. He looked horrible and he had bandages on his arm.
"What happened to you? Why am I here? Why are you here?!?" She questioned in a rushed way.
"Don't you remember what happened? My twin brother, Judas, got you to meet him because he has been obsessed with you, ever since I started to date you. That's why you've never met him. He nearly choked you to death and he tried to kill me," he slightly growled out.
As he was retelling her what had happened, the memories started hitting her like a freight train. A headache started coming on.
"What happened to him? Where are Réya and Cameron? Have they been found?"
"You managed to save my life when you shot him in his side, thank you for that. As for your friends, they found them tortured and tied up in Judas' basement. They looked terrible but they're doing a lot better. They're also in the hospital."
"I shot him? I didn't remember that! Thank God everyone's okay," Koraline said to him, feeling guilty and relieved at the same time.
"He, also, got arrested for kidnapping, murdering your friends, breaking and entering, and some others. He won't be out for a really long time," a new voice added.
She looked over by the door and saw Detective Hannigan. He smiled at her.
"That's good to hear," Koraline sagged back against the pillows, feeling exhausted.
"We should let you get some rest. Let's leave, Mr. Carter." Detective Hannigan gestured for Jaxon to leave, first.
"Wait! Jaxon, how did you know where to find me? Were you stalking me?" She peered at him suspiciously.
"Yes, I was. I knew you wouldn't want to see me so I watched in the shadows to make sure you were safe," he looked guilty as he confessed this to her.
"So they were sacrificed because he was upset he couldn't be with me? Sacrificed for nothing!" Koraline looked sick to her stomach.
"When I get better, can I go and see Réya and Cam?" She questioned in a quiet tone.
This time, Detective Hannigan answered and told her that she could.
"Thank you, I'd like to be alone now." She turned on her back, facing away from the door as it silently shut closed.
Koraline cried for the souls that died because of her, all because a psychotic vampire was obsessed with her.
