Koraline went to classes like she normally would but it was getting much harder to concentrate on her courses. She felt guilty like it was all her fault that three people have died. Also, the plan that she, Cameron, and Réya came up with felt like it was burning a hole in her brain. It was replaying in her mind, daily, just waiting to come to fruition.
She had to wait to set it in action, although she didn't want to. She wanted to hurry to obtain justice for the three people she suspected died because of her because they were close enough to her to know her, even though she couldn't comprehend why.
Everyone already knew the part they played in the plan. They didn't even alert the police to their plan because it was taking them too long to find one suspect!
If she didn't know any better, she'd say they were covering up for the murderer as it's been almost two weeks since the first corpse was found. The whole campus was relatively still in mourning for the three souls that were taken too early. They were beginning to get angry that it was taking so long and they were getting restless. They wanted to catch a glimpse of the person behind bars so that they didn't have to dwell in fear.
She exited her medium-sized Psychology class, after gathering all her notes and her computer bag, with her books. She attempted to call her roommate to tell her that her class finished earlier than usual today and to ask her if she wanted to hang out, to go over the plan again.
She received no response and that was completely strange because Réya always answered unless she was in a class. Koraline inspected the time and recognized that it wasn't a scheduled time that Réya would have class so she was supposed to be free.
She began to get concerned. She called another time, just in case. It went straight to voicemail, which was not promising.
She tried to call Cameron, it was the same result as Réya and he didn't have a class, either. He always picked up when she called unless he was in a class or was playing football with his friends. Koraline started to panic but she attempted to calm herself down.
Nothing's wrong with them, they're fine! Koraline struggled to convince herself, in her head, as she rushed to her dorm room to check to see if Réya was there.
As she reached closer to her dorm room, directly in its hallway, she could see that the door was slightly open and she started running the rest of the way.
She, cautiously, nudged the door further open with a pen she hurriedly took out of her book bag. The pen was used so that she didn't contaminate anything, especially if whoever broke in fingerprints were still present on the door. Koraline knew that she sounded a bit insane, she watched too many true-crime documentaries, so she released that train of thought.
The door opened with a slight creaking sound and what she saw left her feeling very unsafe, even in her own skin. Her room was completely trashed about, particularly on Réya's side. It was like a tornado ripped through the room, obliterating everything in its path.
She saw a bright red envelope, propped up by a beautiful vase of white roses. The only thing in the room remained intact. Knowing that that wasn't present that morning, she rushed towards the letter. Koraline didn't even bother with the flowers, she just scrambled to rip the letter open to see what it comprised of. Evidence be damned!
The words in the letter pissed her off the further she read it. It said that she had to meet him at a specific location before they died, too, like the others who'd died before them. He said not to bring the police, she wasn't that foolish. Although, he was being preposterous.
He, whoever he is, has Réya and Cameron!
Koraline was absolutely furious. She went under her mattress and picked up the items she'd had before she moved to St. Barnabas for school. She'd always had them since her dad made sure they, his family, were all protected. She dropped her items and changed into clothes she'd be comfortable running and fighting in. Whoever they were, they wouldn't get away with this!
Koraline exited her room, making sure that the door was locked and latched.
