Natalie felt the cold. It was too strong. It was still spring since they were in May but this was unusual. Natalie rolled her eyes as she stood to see why. She face palmed herself when she saw that her window was open. She must have forgotten to lock it after her stare at the moon session. She took a peek at the sky before she locked it. Her room felt really cold. Natalie hated being cold. She hurried to her bathroom and ran the hot water in her tub. She put a little body wash and dipped herself. Natalie moaned in contentment. Hot water was truly a blessing to the world.
She hummed the tone of many Disney songs before she decided that her room would have warmed up. She wore new pajamas and went downstairs for a drink. Natalie was too lazy to open the fridge so she got water from the tap. "Hmm" she checked the liquid after a gulp. It tasted odd and water should be tasteless. She shrugged and went back to bed.
Natalie unlocked her phone to check random stuff but ended up reading novels till she fell asleep. She was happier. For the first time, she did something different from her sleep, school and sleep routine. Maybe it was a sign or just her mind over thinking again.
Behind the blackness of her eyelids, a dream came to life. In the dream world, she was in the park enjoying the beautiful afternoon when the sun suddenly set. The sky rumbled like an angry bull and the clouds gathered together.
A bright ray of light forced its way through the thick clouds. Natalie saw an object fall. The closer it was to the ground, the more vague it became. The circular flying ship sped start for her and in panic, she made an 'X' with her arms over her face.
"Natalie!" The object yelled. "Natalie!" It called again.
At the third call, Natalie knew the voice was familiar. It was her mother. Her body started waking and the voice did not stop calling. Natalie opened her eyes to the light. She blinked a few times till she registered that her mother was hovering over her. "Mom?" She asked with a yawn."Geez! Natalie!" Daisy held her chest, "I haven't had to do that in years or ever actually. Are you okay?" "Yeah", she sat up, "my window was unlocked. The cold might have messed with my head".
Natalie took a quick glance at her alarm. It was almost seven. "Whoa!" Was all she could say. "Whoa is right", Daisy was relieved that her daughter was fine, "this has never happened". "It's about time for a change", Natalie teased, "I have always wondered what detention feels like". Daisy gave her an unimpressed frown.
Natalie laughed and got down. Daisy raised her eyes questionably. "What? Is there something on my face?" Natalie asked. "You grew taller or my eyes are getting bad". Daisy said. "Impossible!" Natalie said dramatically, "I was destined with your height". "Whatever. There is something you should see. Let's go".
Natalie obediently followed her mother. She kissed her Dad good morning and sat beside him. The news channel was on. "So...what are we doing?" She asked clearly not looking forward to watching the news. "We went sent a flash message about a news alert at seven. It said the news was important for everyone in town". Daisy explained.
Natalie tried to guess what could be so important but nothing came to mind. Boshville had nothing special to offer. She hoped it wasn't a really terrible news involving deaths.
"Good morning Boshville. Anchor Grace Church here with the OBT news at seven", the reporter said, "a flash was sent to all adult citizens regarding a very peculiar news". Natalie focused all her attention on the words of Grace.
"Two local scientists made a call to the police department at 5 this morning with bad news for the town's water supply. Their given statements mentioned that some radioactive chemicals leaked from the power plants and laboratories. There were no precise words about how this came to be or when but it was said that it infected the town's dam which is the main source of water for Boshville".
