Imagine a battlefield where both sides were trying to dominate the other with gunfire but suddenly, the stronger side launched a missile. The missile lands graciously on a particular spot with one person receiving the hardest blast. That was the present state of Natalie's mind.Every information she had received about her home had been threatening to shatter her mind but this was the winner. Her mother made a deal with an alien devil to save her daughter in turn allowing her brother who loved her the most in the universe to take the life from her.
Natalie saw Casper in front of her. His lips were moving but she could not hear a word. She looked to his left and saw Evie and Alexis also trying to communicate something to her. Am I unconscious already? Is this all a bad dream? She mused. Zee had moved in front of her too. He was screaming. She could tell by the bulging veins on his neck.
Natalie closed her eyes. There was a spark of something new in her. She could see the color dancing in the back of her eyes; a beautiful amethyst shade in a friendly mix with sapphire and crystal flamingo colors. The colors put her in a trance and she swayed to the rhythm. The colors expanded to a light and Natalie wanted to fall into it.
Suddenly, a loud voice said in her head. Snap out of it Natalie please. Please come back. The voice belonged to Casper. He was telling to come back but from where? A jolt went through her and she realized that she wasn't in Fiona's house hearing Zee talk about the bad news. Natalie shook her head and the whole show started to clear.
Her vision was wiped of all colors and the blur was slowly turning into faces. Natalie blinked a few times before she saw the familiar faces. "Casper?" She asked. Casper nodded his head. Natalie felt a sharp pain in her head and on instinct her hands went to her temples to massage them.
"What happened?" She asked as she sat up. "You fell into a shock". Fiona answered. They were all worried as Natalie suddenly became unresponsive. She fainted and just when Zee had suggested that they let her rest, they saw more cracks. Whatever was happening in her subconscious was making her transform and they could not risk that happening. They tried everything until Casper decided to dive into her mind.
Just then, Natalie noticed the many cracks on her body. "What does this mean?" She asked. Everyone averted their eyes. No one wanted to be held responsible for her next panic attack. "Hello?! Do I have to scream my question?" Natalie questioned.
Again, nobody acted as if they had heard the question. She sighed, "I know I'm a lot to handle", she said with tears gathered in her eyes, "but it's frustrating. I grew up in Boshville doing the same thing over and over again. There was nothing out of the ordinary and now...our lives have changed. I have powers that I only ever used to see in comics".
"This has been dangerous and tiring and confusing and I've lost a lot of people I care about but this is my fight. I am a warrior and I want to help my people. So please, if I'm hurting my family, just tell me". The tears fell down.
"You're not hurting your family". They all turned to see Tristan. He had added a few pounds in the last hours. Bartin was surprisingly calm. Natalie had a feeling that he had received a scolding. "I'm fine", Tristan told Fortin who had been helping him walk, "I can handle this".
Zee took a few steps towards Tristan. Tristan gave him a sad smile and pushed past him. "There are a lot about our people that you must know", Tristan continued, "and I'd be more than happy to tell you in a fun way". She remembered how Tristan helped her relax. She nodded and followed him.
Zee held Tristan's hand, "can we talk?" "I'm walking away to protect you", Tristan gave Zee a deadly glare, "sounds familiar?" With that, he marched upstairs with Natalie on his heels. Zee sighed. He deserved it. Everyone knew that much. "It's pretty late. Let's all get some rest". Zee said with slumped shoulders.
