Natalie just felt like her life was more dead than it already was. Whenever she thought it couldn't get worse, it got worse. "Just eat casually and they'll let you go". Carmosole laid out the drinks, "I'll figure out a way to sneak you out". With that, the lady left."Is she one of us?" Natalie broke her pact of slience. The woman was pretty. She had white Asian skin which reminded her of Casper, her eyes were a soulful black and her shoulder length hair was thickly black and silky. The way Zee looked at her almost suggested that they had a thing together at some point.
"Yes. She was equally lucky to have escaped the invasion", Zee answered, "we worked together for many years until we didn't". "What's that supposed to mean?"
"We had an argument. Carmosole tried to help me and I wouldn't listen. We lost a lot of our friends because of it. I never thought I'd see her again".
"What kind of bad things?" Zee gave her a face but Natalie shrugged. "There's no point in being cryptic", she said, "we're gonna die at some point in this escape so I'd rather you spill". "Fine", he sighed, "we were in the organization of bounty hunters".
A bombshell dropped on Natalie. "What?!" She exclaimed. "Keep your voice down!" He retorted. "I can yell all I want. I don't know if you plan to kill or trade me".
"For the last time, I'm not gonna kill you. What happened to Carmosole and I was a horrible mistake".
"Really?"
"They found us and nursed us back to health. They told us about the feds and even trained us to defend ourselves. I put my trust in them. That was how I met Daisy and Rogers. Carmosole suspected them but I wouldn't believe her".
"They told us they would help find our people. I was too blind to see what was in front of me. By the time I realized they were bad, it was too late. Few had been killed".
Natalie calmed down. Zee thought those people deserved his loyalty. "It wasn't your fault", Natalie gave him a smile, "they saved you and you put your life in their hands. I understand. Even though I think you're annoying, I feel indebted to you for dragging me out of Boshville".
"Do not feel that way. It is my duty to keep you safe. It is least I can offer to our people". Zee smiled at the young girl. There was something about her that seemed to make everything brighter. He was certain that the star was not wrong.
Natalie was focused on her meal until she saw a shadow on her plate. She traced it to a huge man that was standing beside their table. "Why you don't you run along little girl?" The man had a cracked tooth in front, "we adults have business to discuss".
Natalie crossed her arms, "you're in luck", she said, "I'm an adult so let's have a big ol' conversation". "You're a funny one. Your smart mouth won't do you any good". "I suppose you speak from experience". She fired back.
The now angry man threw his hand at her. She flinched a little even though the punch did not land. "Natalie, go wait in the car". Zee ordered as he held the strange man's hand. Natalie tried to argue but Zee looked at her sternly.
Natalie reluctantly stood up. She glared at both of them before she left. She went to sulk beside the car. "Go wait in the car", she mimicked Zee, "ugh! That's the worst thing you can say to me. I'm not a kid that he can just toy around with. I can help him".
She kicked the car and folded her arms against her chest. "He's so not fair". She continued her complaints. Natalie fished out her phone. She dialed Casper's number. 'Hiya! You've reached my voicemail. Please leave a message unless you're Natalie. I cannot listen to your scolding. Beep'.
Natalie smiled. Her voicemail said similar words too. Natalie wished for the times when everything was normal. The sound of broken glass dragged Natalie out of her thoughts. A random guy had been thrown through the window. The guy struggled to his feet and marched back inside fuming with rage.
