Okay, a million dollar question, what do you think will be the end of this world?
Global warming? Natural calamities? Ice age? The sun? Fire? Asteroids? Aliens?
Well, I have to say that even after a century, I still agree on what Robert said in his poem. Fire and ice.
The answer is hatred. Hatred is surrounded by negativity, which brings all the darkness, all the pain. George was too blinded by his cruel intentions towards the world. Just like Adolf Hitler. Their unique abilities could've been used in the betterment of the world, but....
This is what happens when darkness leads the world.

They say love drives you crazy, it's blind. But I say Hatred just fucking snatches the logical part of your brain. The rest is all over the history.

"Just go Charlie! I can distract them!" Kim cried.

"Oh yeah, that's a good idea! No actually that's a GREAT idea!" Charlie picked her up and gave her a little kick start and realised a zombie was gripping her from the other side.

"Shit" Kim punched the zombie. A few were close by.

Steve and Harold were nowhere to be seen.
Charlie speeded up and pushed the zombies ahead of them and then forcefully separated the one from Kim. He picked her up and wiped her face as they ran out of the park.
When they were at the corner, he cupped her cheeks and said "if I do not return, just let her know, I tried my best. Oh and I really like you Kim. If we ever meet again and Lil chooses Steve, I'm all yours. And about Harold...I don't really care"
He winked and said goodbye.

"No!" Kim couldn't stop him.

He became the distraction Kim wanted to be. "Ooii, go ahead! Show me what you got! Catch me!" He attracted all the zombies in the narrow lane which once again led to the forest. Half the population of Alleye was behind him.

Charles Bailey.

Kim covered her mouth and ran, until she reached the end of the lane where she found Harold and Steve waiting.

"Where's Charlie?!" Was Steve's first question.
Kim shook her head slowly as Harold pulled her into his arms.

Steve picked up a rectangular piece of plastic and pressed it into the ground, making it look like a memorial.

"No! He isn't dead! Pray for him, don't declare him dead just like that!" Kim kicked the piece of plastic away.

Few hours later

It was almost dawn when Steve finally decided that it was time for them to get out of the old bakery and get going.
Charlie's sacrifice still couldn't attract as many zombies to get the whole Alleye safe enough to move around quickly.

The sun was still hiding behind the darkness, the moon, hanging above their heads.
Kim was walking with Harold. She obviously didn't have the best mood.

Inbetween the chaos Steve's first concern was to find Lil and get to a safe spot. Yes, and it should be.
"I can't spot anything higher than three storey" he said as he made his way to the second Street. He noticed Kim as Harold gestured for him to talk to her.

"Hey, I'm sure he's alive. He must be somewhere out there, he survived the 12s, I'm sure he can survive the 10s easily" Steve kept a hand on her shoulders "don't be sad Kim. I think he would be in the forest, driving the car, getting away"

Kim wiped her tears and said in a bold voice "c'mon boys we don't have time to waste. If we find Lil, we can go back and find Charlie too. It's not late"

The boys shared glances and decided not to say anything and follow her.

"I think the school is near" Kim recalled.

They tip toed a few more blocks and spotted a Mansion. The Hoffman Residence. Yes, Kimberly Hoffman's former house. It was huge, like a castle, it's never ending garden and beautiful bricked walls were still standing still.

"This is yours?" Steve looked up at the mansion "you wanna go in?"

When it's been twenty months since you've been somewhere, you lose interest, or maybe you are just to afraid to go in because it may pull you back to the memories and sorrow that you left behind to get along with the changes.

"No" Kim started walking away "if we walked east in the start instead, we'd reach the lab...oh but it's of no use, since the cure is already found"

The answer was clear. She wasn't interested in going in. Good decision because who knows what would be waiting inside for them.

They walked in silence until the mansion was out of their sight.

"That's the school.." Kim exhaled.

"No time for sight seeing get in! There's someone behind us!" Steve pushed them in as Harold opened the door.

"Steve! Getting inside it was never the plan! We can't, it's too dangerous, buildings can be a deadend!" Kim was right, once you get in, there's no guarantee you'd be able to make it out.

Harold pulled her arm as he spotted a few D-10s in the other corridor.
"C'mon!" Steve started climbing the stairs.

They didn't have much time, they had to find a safe spot. They can't afford to be spotted again! Or maybe....they have been.

"Why are all those zombies entering the school?" Kim peeped outside the window.

"Faster! Both of you! They're coming for us" Steve guided them to the 3rd floor.
He didn't seem sure about his plans either.

"Is that thing...OH MY GOD - it's coming.." Kim cried as she looked straight into the eyes of her old Chemistry teacher. He looked awful..he looked as if he just took a blood shower.

"This way!" Steve panicked. He gestured Kim and Harold to continue running as he stopped by and slowed the zombie teacher with his hammer.

"Do you guys see the light from that room too or it's just me?" Kim rested her hands on her hip.

"No time to think" Steve pointed at the other side of the corridor as he opened the door quickly. The zombies were rushing over from both the directions now.

"Get in!" Steve waited at the door until they were in and got in himself. Yes he did close the door after that.

"Thankgod I thought this was my end...maybe for the 35th time but, this time it seemed real" Kim rested her forehead on the door.
Harold was trying to catch his breath.

"Welcome...Humans?" George spilled his glass of alcohol in excitement.

"Oh it's you.." Kim was annoyed, obviously, because you never wish to see a face like his after a long-rough night.

"Kim,Steve, Harold, Charlie!!" Lil walked outside the small bathroom in the room. As soon as she spotted Steve, she didn't think twice before jumping at him.
Steve didn't hesitate either.
Instead it felt like he was home. Seems like forever, isn't?
She wrapped her arms around him and crossed her legs around his waist and kissed him.
Woah..wait a minute, was that a kiss?

"Oh..sorry, uhmm.." she got down as she realised the guilt flowing inside of her "Charlie I-...wait a minute, where's Charlie?"
