Chapter 24

The war is two days from now.

I am currently standing guard next to Lady Palutena Dark and Pit are in the same room having some argument about buying clothes in the soup store.

I'm really nervous, even though Link helped me I still don't know how I'm going to do this! All I can do is open up portals and use my weapons. I can't do what Lady Palutena can, forget about Hades! I'm done for, ok , I'm done for twice. I can die two times before I actually die.

I can do this because-

"Lady Palutena! Goddess Aphrodites has arrived!" A centurion calls out I straighten up next to Lady Palutena in shock. Pit and Dark immediately stop arguing and stand on the other side of the throne with their backs straight. Tch, why does everyone respect her so much?!

The doors open and Aphrodites walks in.

Her strawberry blonde locks flow behind her in a nonexistent breeze. Her beautiful doric chiton makes her look like she glides when she walks and her hair frames her beautiful face perfectly. She has an air of grace, elegance and of beauty, but also an air of menace. I stare into the purple eyes that had once looked upon me with scorn and mock. She opens the cherry red lips that used to spill out insults and complaints at me and spoke.

"Lady Palutena! Long time no see!"

Lady Palutena hurriedly stands up and walks to Aphrodites with her arms outstretched and a smile painted on her face "Aphrodites what a surprise!" and they both hug. I look away in disgust not too keen to greet her.

"Pit." Aphrodites acknowledged him "Dark" she greeted him. At last her eyes find their way to me, once I see the challenge in them I knew there and then that she hadn't changed at all. This made me all the more disgusted.

"Y/N! The last time I saw you, you were a drab and plain angel!" She gives a laugh, I grit my teeth in annoyance and nod "And now you're the goddess of balance! Who'd have thought it?!" I nod once more.

I look around at the others.

Lady Palutena looks a bit taken aback, Dark looks like he's about to slap her. But what surprises me the most is Pit. Pit looks like he's about to wrestle her to the ground, and Pit would never hurt anyone. Ok maybe monsters like hydras, and maybe that fly he killed yesterday... anyways that's beside the point. He needs a chill pill.

"Yeah, I guess she's one of us now." Lady Palutena says pointedly. Aphrodites chuckles "And yet she's still working for you! I guess she's so used to being bossed around that she can't stop!" she looks at me with challenge.

What did I ever do to her?! Yeah, I'm not going to let that slide "At least I've done work Aphrodites!" I retort. Why does she always have it in for me?!

Aphrodites glares at me for a moment "I'm surprised to see you hanging around with angels Y/N." she starts, I think I know where this is going. "From day one you've been with them!"

And she lets out the mother of all insults.

"You used to hang out with that weak one, what's his name... OH! Yeah, Saphiron!"

I ball my fists preparing for another insult, but nothing could prepare me for what Aphrodites said next.

"It's too bad he's DEAD."

OH NO SHE DID NOT! I open my mouth for a retort but nothing comes out, I can feel my eyes tearing up, I consider going to my room. No. I am done running and submitting myself to this witch!

I start laughing hysterically.

"It really is too bad." I smile darkly.

"Y/N." Lady Palutena warns me. I will not listen to her, what did she do when Aphrodites insulted me?! NOTHING!

"Saphiron was an honourable angel. He tried and tried to be a better person, to his very last breath. He cared for those in need, he looked up to those who helped him. He was always there, rain or shine. He was my friend." I take a shaky breath. Pit holds my hand softly, but I shake him off, I started this so I will finish it. The tears fall, I ignore them.

I glare at Aphrodites "You don't deserve to say his name! You have done none of those things in your life! You should be ashamed Aphrodites! ASHAMED!"

Aphrodites opens her mouth to rebuke but I beat her to it.

"The time of insulting others is over! You look down on those who admire you, you scorn those who are better than you, you take out your anger on those who help you! AND YOU CALL YOURSELF THE GODDESS OF LOVE! You only love yourself! Love isn't only about how you look, it's about what you feel and who you are!"

I finish off breathing shakily with dried tears staining my face. I wait for Aphrodites to say something in response, but nothing comes. I go towards my room without another word angry and sad.

I slam the door not caring and fall onto my bed with my face buried in my pillow. I don't know how long I stay like that, maybe ten minutes or even an hour. I think about Saphiron.

Flashback

"Y/N! You've always wanted one of these!"

You turn around and see Saphiron running towards you with something in his hand "Saphiron!" You smile running to give him a hug.

"You finished collecting metal for Ares? You came back!" You exclaim in surprise. Saphiron had finished his job faster than usual.

"Of course I came back, I'll never leave you!" he pulls back. You look him in his purple eyes seriously "Do you promise?" he hesitates "First see what I got you!" he takes his hand out from behind his back.

There in his palm is an onyx and pearl pin. "Where did you get it!?" You gasp.

Saphiron chuckles "I found it in the mines and asked Hephaestous to fix it as a pin." he explains you. "Thanks you." You say quietly, touched by his thoughtfulness.

"Do you promise?"

"Yes Y/N, I promise."

His red hair blows in the night breeze as you two laugh the rest of the beautiful evening.

Flash back end

I sigh. A bit embarrassed about what I did there. But at least one good thing came out of it.

I told the truth.
