"So my job is to fill in for this sports doctor that is on maternity leave?"

"Yes, Nonny." The Superintendent said, fixing his half moon spectacles that made him look like dumbledore but without the long hair and beard. His embroidered doctor's coat half lay on his shoulders.

"How long?"

"Just a month. Nothing hectic and I will personally be  compensating you from my own pocket because I know just how valuable and amazing your work can be with those athletes. And anyway, the exposure will be good for you as well as for our hospital."

"But I'm not trying to be famous-"

The Superintendent laughed. "You'll be working behind the scenes. Just making sure that the athletes are healthy enough to continue playing and making their clubs rich. You don't even need the money...I know but just do this for me. My hospital needs the money and the exposure and you'll be the face that brings me the benjamins "

Nonny chuckled lightly. "Fine. But...in a couple of months, I'll need to take leave."

"Are you going somewhere?"

Nonny shook her head. Then she looked up at the Superintendent and gave him a small smile. "Um...I'm kind of pregnant..."

The man's eyebrows shot up. "What do you mean kind of pregnant? Did you have a one night stand? I know you youngsters have unprotected sex with strangers...and I know for a fact that you do not have a man."

Nonny rolled her eyes. She decided to be straightforward. "I had artificial insemination done at my practice by Dr. Moyo."

"Why?"

This was what she didn't want. Telling people close to her and them asking her a million questions after. She hadn't even told her family yet because she knew that her mother was going to yell and curse because Nonny came from a devout Muslim family that did not believe in what she had done. Even though she wasn't very religious anymore, she knew that her mom was going to give her a lecture on how something so unnatural went against everything in the Quran.

Mix in the fact that Nonny's parents were black and did not believe in such nonsense even if they weren't Muslim.

"Superintendent," she said. "I just wanted to have a baby. I mean, I have everything I have ever wanted in life and in my 29 years of life, the one other thing I've always wanted was a kid. But my husband did not want kids so I kind of put it on the back burner for a while."

"So you're going to do this alone?"

"Yes. If my family and friends don't want to be involved, I'm 100% on my own and that's fine. All I know is that I want this baby and I am going to be the best mother I could possibly be."

The Superintendent nodded. "A child is a lot of work but I think you got this. I mean... you've delivered and saved so many children as well as even taken care of them when their parents couldn't. You're going to be a great mother. Good luck and congratulations."

Nonny grinned as she stood up. At least someone was supportive. Her friends and family now remained. She felt a little more optimistic because of this encounter.

.

The sports center was big and amazing. As Nonny got out of the Uber she had taken, she looked up at the beautiful glass and steel building that loomed before her, reflecting the green golf course and the city beyond the golf course magnificently.

At the entrance stood a doorman in sports gear, waiting to open the door for her.

The lobby was a beautiful black and cream piece of art. Even the receptionist at the black oak desk matched everything with her black and white pants suit, her red hair daintily let down to her shoulders.

She smiled when she saw Nonny approaching.

"Hi," Nonny gushed. "I am Dr. Nonny Asher. I have an appointment with a Coach Hart-"

The receptionist immediately led her towards the lift. "The Cape Hotspurs are having a gym session on the 5th floor gym. That's where you'll find Coach Hart. He's usually on the treadmill himself."

Nonny got in and pressed the button for the 5th floor. She turned and smiled at the receptionist. "Thank you."

"You're welcome."

The doors closed and  the elevator went up.

She quickly looked at her reflection. She was dressed in a baggy grey University t-shirt and a pair of black leggings with some pink Crocs. A silver stethoscope was draped around her neck because she had been told that it was the only thing she would have to bring that's hers. As she looked at her face, she smiled. Her light brown face was void of any makeup because Saturdays she did not put any pressure on herself to look professional with nice clothes and makeup.

A while later, Nonny stepped into the most modernised and most expensive looking gym she had ever seen in her life. The equipment here was strictly black and red, including the yoga mats that were neatly packed beside each and every machine.

"Wow," she audibly said, fascinated even though she absolutely hated the gym, preferring to work out at home in her bedroom.

Some whistling caught her off guard. She slightly grinned when she noticed that a team was huddled around a salt and pepper haired tan man that looked to be in his 50s.

They were all currently looking at her, definitely checking her out. Nonny couldn't help herself either. These athletes looked all kinds of better in real life! For a moment, she forgot all about her ex, Derek.

"Oooohh. Please tell me you're the new doctor," one of the athletes said, his green eyes drinking all of Nonny in.

She nodded. "Most definitely. I'm Dr. Nonny Asher," she introduced herself.

The oldest man came towards her with a smile. He stood beside her and put an arm around her shoulders.  "Glad you could join us, Dr. Asher. So gentlemen, this is your new doctor who will be replacing Dr. Farelli. She had to go on maternity leave because one of you decided to make her pregnant."

A blonde haired, muscular athlete laughed out loud. "Coach, I'm married to her for crying out loud. She's my wife."

"Well, you'd better score more goals than that one at our next practice."

The team chuckled.

"Anyway, Dr. Asher here is going to perform full body check ups on you guys so if you have any drugs in your system, I am going to bench you."

The gym went quiet.

"Dr. Asher, you can get-"

The elevator doors opened. "COACH, SO SORRY!! I'M LATE!!"

A tall, coffee skinned man came running over, breathless. The first thing Nonny noticed was his beauty and the second were the two scars on his cheeks as he stopped beside her.

"What did I miss?" he asked.

The team stared at him, laughing among themselves.

"You finally grace us with your presence," the coach sarcastically said. "I was just introducing Dr. Nonny Asher to the team."

He glanced at her and was quiet for a moment before he finally spoke.

"I know you."
