"Why are you still here?" Coach Hart asked as he peered into the tired looking Nonny's office.

Nonny looked up from where she had fallen asleep on her desk. She quickly wiped drool from the side of her mouth, slightly embarrassed.

"I kind of got tired while you guys were practising so I snuck a nap. I'm so sorry. Was there anything you needed?" She sat up properly only to gasp as a pain hit her in the side of the stomach. She leaned over and took deep breaths, eyes closed.

Worried, Coach Hart walked over but she held up her hand to signify that she was fine. He stared at her.

"It's just small cramps," she whispered as she stood up.

She was a couple of weeks now and having never had a baby before, she wasn't sure whether to worry or not but she would make a stop by Dr. Moyo's house.

She looked outside and realised that it was getting closer to dark. When she looked at her watch, it was a little past 6pm. She grabbed her bag and stethoscope then walked with Coach Hart to the parking lot where he made sure she left safely before getting into his own car.

Dr. Moyo quickly checked her even though it was after hours and he was having family time with his wife and his preteen daughter.

"You're still good," he assured her.

"So no possibility of a miscarriage?" she whispered, barely breathing.

Dr. Moyo shook his head. "None whatsoever. Your cramps might just be stress related. What did you do today that stressed you so much?"

Nonny thought back to her fight with Theous earlier. She had only been trying to help but from his reaction, she had crossed the line with him. His reaction had worried her for the rest of the day because it made it apparent that his problem ran deeper than she thought. Even if Theous probably hated her now, she was determined to find out what was wrong with him and help him.

But right now, if she was stressing like this about him, she was risking her pregnancy so early on. He was not worth her putting her foetus at risk like that. Maybe it was best that she left him alone.

Yes. She would leave him alone.

After the visit to Dr. Moyo's, Nonny felt relieved and a little lighter as she pulled up into her driveway. She had even treated herself to some pork braai (barbeque) and salad because her mother was not home to cook for her. She parked the car, grabbed her takeaway and got out of the car.

As she approached her door, she was surprised to find Derek seated on the small step in front of the door.

His black hair was styled nicely with fades on the sides and he was still dressed in his blue scrubs and lab coat. He looked absolutely radiant and handsome.

She greeted him and let them into the house.

When he didn't say a word, she turned to look at him and he was staring at her.

"What?" she said, staring right back.

"You're pregnant," he stated.

"Yeah. So?"

"Whose is it?"

"None of your business."

"We had sex almost a month ago. You weren't pregnant before then."

Yes. It was true. In a moment of weakness and drunkenness, Nonny had gotten intimate with Derek before she went and got In-Vitro. And they hadn't used a condom even though she was clearly aware that Derek belonged to another now. She thought it was the only way that she could get closure and to some extent, she had gotten just a bit.

"Derek, it's not yours if that's what you're asking. I know you don't want kids. Don't worry. I bought the morning after pill. You're not going to be a dad. At least not with me anyway."

Derek sighed with relief. Then he frowned. "Is it Theous Dior's kid?"

Nonny laughed. Because she could hear the undertone of jealousy in his voice despite his best attempt to subdue it. And his frown rather gave him away.

"Like I said, it's none of your business, Derek. And you need to stop coming here."

"But this is our house. Our home."

"Our home? Really, Derek? This has not been your home since you walked out that door a year ago. And this is my house now."

"We are not divorced."

Nonny frustratedly groaned. They were not divorced because she had been refusing to sign the papers he had kept presenting her with months ago.

"Derek, you want half of everything."

"Need I remind you that my networth is more than yours? You get half of what I own too and isn't that better than fair?"

She glared at him. "You just want half of what I have because you know how much N.A.H means to me. The one thing that I care about the most and you want half because you know how much that would destroy me."

"I do deserve half of that hospital after all the work I did with and for you-"

"Get out, Derek. You are richer than me and yet you still want something from me! Get out!" Nonny angrily pointed at the door.

She was not going to sign the damn divorce papers! She didn't want anything from Derek. He could keep all of his fortune. The only thing she asked and kept asking him for was for him to let her keep everything of hers when they divorced but he was being selfish and refusing. Yes, he had helped her make her private practice what is was today, with him bringing in most of his rich friends and family to get their services from her.

But he would not let her leave the marriage with everything she owned. The practice was even in her name, for crying out loud!

"Why did you come here, Derek?" she asked calmly. "Why did you guys choose this estate particularly to come and live in? This is where you and I started our married life and where we made friends. Are you trying to mock me or something because I checked and it was not your girlfriend's hospital that brought her here. It was you, Derek. You bought that house. Why, knowing that I live here? You asked me to leave you alone and not to bother you and I did that but..."

Nonny's voice broke despite her best attempts not to cry.

"Nonny..."

"Get out," she croaked. "Please leave."

"I wasn't-"

"Leave," a voice suddenly said from the open doorway. Nonny and Derek both looked up. Theous stared at the two of them, his arms before him in a don't-test-me stance. "You heard the lady, Dr. Derek Asher."

Derek, dumbfounded, walked out.

Nonny turned away to wipe the wells in her eyes but the tears escaped, streaming down her face. She hunched her shoulders and used the top part of her scrubs to clear them before she turned to her food, refusing to look at Theous.

"Nonny-"

"I'm fine," she said as she placed a plate upsidedown and began to dish out her salad.

She felt Theous' hand on hers, stopping her.

"He is richer than me but he wants half of my hospital," she sighed heavily and finally looked at him, trying to keep her composure even though her eyes brimmed with tears. "He wants half of my inheritance. I offered to build him his own private practice but he is adamant that he wants half of N.A.H."

Theous pulled her into his arms and wrapped his arms warmly around her, rubbing her back and kissing the top of her head as she cried.

"I'm sorry," he said.

Nonny only cried harder.

He tightened his arms around her, his mouth still giving the top of her head warm kisses.

"It's gonna be alright," he gently whispered.
