only 2 more days until you and yeji left for chicago

you were happy you'd finally get to actually be with your best friend yet scared at the possibilities of what might happen on this trip

you hoped and prayed that it would be a fun, nice time and a good memory to look back on. but you also knew there was no way it'd be completely free of drama

you were prepared to deal with a bit of it but not some huge mess. i mean, there's no way it'd get that bad right? yeah that's a stretch

you two had barely talked the days leading up to this. niki was your main source of comfort and entertainment. he didn't know much about what your situation with seowon was like, all he knew was that he didn't like you and he was a bit controlling. he told you everything would be okay on the trip and that either way seowon has to respect that yeji's with you not him because they wouldn't even be in the same country. everything he said made sense. you just hoped he was right.

sitting in lunch, you sat in your current spot at a table near the window with few scattered people around you. on this particular day however, yeji and seowon decided to sit in the table ahead of you.

every few minutes or so you and yeji made eye contact and she gave you a small smile. it felt awkward, like you both knew the circumstances you were currently under but you chose to not mention them for the time being.

it pained her to know she was leaving you alone so much especially with sunghoon being busy recently too. though, she still understood you didn't wanna harp on the situation and would rather just pretend it was fine. she could only hope you really were okay and not just saying that so she wouldn't feel bad.

yeji was a good friend, she was a great friend. despite how some people might paint this situation she's never been a bad friend. she's just in a bad position. she didn't want to do this to you, but it was either this or letting you be constantly bombarded by seowon even more than you are.

she thought this was the only way to protect you. if only she knew what would soon follow. if only she had a different way to protect you. if only you had the courage to talk to someone about how it really felt.

but let's not get ahead of ourselves we're not quite there yet. on this specific day, there was hope. hope that maybe things could go back to the way they were before seowon changed his mind about you.

you were sitting there on your phone when you got an instagram notification. it was seowon.

he texted you talking like normal,  joking about how this weird girl in a purple sweater (yeji) keeps following him to his lunch tables every day.

you joked along as you didn't see a reason to disturb the peace that had just restarted itself between you. maybe he was sorry. maybe he felt bad. maybe he wanted to be friends again.

maybe i can have my best friend back...
