you and niki had an actual conversation for the next hour or so.

we haven't talked like this since 8th grade

i missed him...

————————————————————————

hours and hours of conversation over the days following. you and niki had actually started talking again. and when i say talking i mean talking all day. you're friends again,

right..? friends?

on the topic of friends, you and yeji had been talking less since her and seowon started officially dating.

you didn't mind that she was focusing on her new boyfriend but you still wished you had talked more.

honestly you'd been feeling pretty lonely recently. you barely see yeji anymore and one of your only other friends is yuna from biology. you only talk in school but she's been absent for a few days. of course, you had sunghoon but he hasn't been able to hang out as much recently since he started track and had to go to the fields after school and sometimes on weekends.

your mom left for work at the same time as you left for school and she came back around 6pm so you don't get to be with her too much either.

your sister left for college a while ago so she lives 2 hours away now.

your conversations with niki were like an escape.

he helped so much without even knowing.

————————————————————————

despite the debilitating effects of your recent mental health decline, you tried your best to do what was expected of you. yeji really wanted you and seowon to get along so you started talking and he started sitting with you guys at lunch whenever he skipped 6th period. it was nice. he seemed like a nice person and you did get along.

around the beginning of october you had gotten sick for about a week and a half and stayed out of school to rest.

yeji missed you, and surprisingly so did seowon. you didn't really expect him to care much but apparently you were kind of friends now.

yeji cried the day before you came back to school because she said it didn't feel right without you for so long. seowon understood that. he comforted her and kept her reminded of your soon return.

he was so nice.

the month of october took somewhat of a fast and unexpected turn.

it was a regular thing for you to skip some classes throughout the week. you usually skipped with yeji and seowon and it was fun and normal. just like lunch.

halfway through the month, there was a day where seowon didn't seem to be feeling good. you didn't want to pry and ask what was wrong, he just seemed upset and didn't wanna talk to anybody. not even yeji could get through to him. lunch was silent. the period after was silent.

it was like that for a few days straight until one day he just snapped and him and yeji got into an argument at the end of the period. he left the cafeteria and you skipped your next class and stayed with her while they continued to argue over text. you saw everything he was saying. he had what seemed like an endless list of things he wanted her to fix.

you were one of those things.

he suddenly seemed to have a problem with you and how much time yeji spent with you. he didn't like how close you were anymore. he didn't like that you saw each other often anymore. he didn't like you anymore.

yeji kept telling you he's just mad and looking for things to say and he didn't mean it, but you knew he did.

you never expected him to be so petty or to ever say half of the things he said to yeji. the way he acted when he got mad just wasn't right. it didn't feel right. the way he treated her didn't feel right. the speed at which he switched his attitude didn't feel right. none of it felt right.

you skipped the rest of the day and just stayed with yeji and reassured her that it would be alright. neither of you believed that, but it was still nice to pretend.

you knew it hurt her no matter how much she said it didn't. you knew she wanted to cry even though she held it back. you knew her well. and you knew that this argument was gonna be a first of many to hurt her.

they managed to fix things after a day or two of arguing. but seowon stood his ground when it came to you. he didn't like you around her anymore. he started making her sit somewhere else and would pick a fight every time she mentioned wanting to go to your house after school so she wouldn't. this was just how it was gonna be now.

great.
