Chapter 7- Destiny

Valerie walked briskly to her room, opening the door, she slid her gloves on. The familiar leather and tightness of them on her hands. She walked down the winding halls. Entering the training room. Many children were sitting near the door. Valerie stepped over them.

There are two circles and Valerie knows what game they're playing. It's a game where your task is to push the other person out of their circle.

Eleven stepped forwards and stood in a circle, opposite of her is Two. Henry tied her blindfold and whispered something in her ear.

"Begin." Papa stated.

Both people were breathing heavily. Eleven's feet slid back a few inches. Valerie was tempted to slide her gloves off and slow Eleven's heartbeat. Gulping, her eyes closed, she was giving into the temptation that she knew better to avoid. Sliding her gloves back, they fell from her hands, landing softly on the ground beside her feet.

Hearing the light fast heart beat of Eleven, turning her hand to the right, hearing the heartbeat slow. She lowered her hand. Quickly wiped the blood from her nose and slid her gloves on.

Eleven screamed and thrusted her hand forwards, sending two flying into the mirror. The glass cracked. Pulling the blindfold down, she stared at Two.

"Well. Well. It looks like we have a new winner." Papa stated, glancing behind him at Henry and Valerie.

Everyone exitted, except Valerie and Henry, "Why would you do that?!" Henry shouted.

This was a side of him Valerie heard of but never seen,"Do what?"

"Use your powers so foolishly."

Valerie swallowed, "I was trying to help her. So she would trust us."

"You're going to get us both killed."

Glancing at the ground, "I'm sorry. I just thought- that I could gain her trust."

"Well, what do you think is going to happen now?"

"You know, I know."

"Unfortunately, I do."

"Henry-" started Valerie, lifting her gaze, her eyes held tears,"I'm so sorry." She closed the gap between them and wrapped her arms around him.

Henry stared around into the distance in disbelief as Valerie pressed her head into his shoulder. Finally returning the embrace, Valerie felt a new sense of comfort in his arms. She didn't want to move. She wanted this moment to last forever. Henry buried his head in her hair and a smile spread across his face as his eyes closed.

"There is a place for us, out there... somewhere. And I don't know where it is." He whispered into her ear.

A smile formed on her face, "I know." She replied, quietly.

They pulled away, resting their foreheads together, Valerie sighed softly, leaning closer. The door swung open.

"Jesus! Will you stop doing that!" Valerie exclaimed at the guard.

"Geez, did I interrupt something?" Asked the guard.

"No, you didn't," snapped Valerie, "What does he want now?" She groaned, taking a step away from Henry.

"Papa says, he needs you, the both of you, now. Hurry up, children."

"We aren't kids anymore." Henry muttered, with an eye roll.

They follow the guard, leading them to separate rooms and telling Valerie that Papa would be in there shortly. Valerie waited, hoping that Henry was okay.

She pressed herself against the wall as screams echoed in the halls, "Please. Please." Henry's voice spoke.

Valerie covered her ears, pushing herself further into the wall, she just wanted to disappear. The door flung open and Papa entered.

"What did you do to him?!" Valerie shouted, getting to her feet, Valerie knew what was going to happen.

"The same thing I'm going to do to you."

Two guards stepped forwards and Valerie's screams echoed through the room. The next thing Valerie knew she was being dragged across the floor through a hall. Blood was dripping from her neck, staining her white uniform.

She was laid in her room, she stood as soon as the door closed, putting a sweatshirt on, she snuck out of her room. Gently covering her head with the hood, she snuck to the boiler room.

A shuffling of footsteps when she entered the room, "Henry?" Valerie asked.

"I'm right here," replied Henry from behind her.

Her heart skipped a beat as she turned, "Henry. I-"

"I know, "is it fate or destiny?'' someone once asked." He said, the tone of his voice weaker than usually.

Valerie laughed like Henry had never seen before, her hood falling back from her head, her short hair falling back.

"That's the laugh." Henry muttered, gazing into her eyes.

Her laugh faded into nothingness, "I'll say, destiny. Destiny brought us together."

He nodded, closing the gap between them, Henry kissed her hard. For Valerie time seemed to stop. For a moment Valerie wanted to kiss him back. Remembering what Papa told her. She pulled away.

"What did you do that for?" Valerie demanded, taking a step back.

"I- I- I-" Was all the boy could manage, he blinked, staring blankly into her beautiful navy blue eyes, "I do like you."

"What was that?"

"I do like you." Henry repeated, holding her gaze.

"Was that so bad?"

"Yes. Because you're beautiful and any man should deserve you." He blurted out before he could stop himself, "You're kind. And intelligent. And also funny. Very funny. How do I know you're not messing with my insides and making me feel like I like you?"

"Because, well... I've never used my powers on you; it was only today where I realized I could still use them. Never before that I thought I could remove my gloves and use my powers. And because... well, I've also fallen for you." Valerie chuckled, brushing a strand of brown hair back.

"I hate the way you talk." Henry laughed. She smiled, a beautiful smile, "That's the smile." He mumbled under his breath.

"So, what do you want to do, just drop down on the concrete and go for it?" Valerie asked, giggling, throwing her head back.

"Maybe. Or maybe we should just take it slow." Henry replied, brushing a lock of hair out of her eye, "You're very beautiful, Valerie."

"Is it fate or destiny?"

"Destiny, a hundred percent." He said with a smile.
