Chapter 14- Into the Woods

Also known as:

(The Vanishing of Will Byers; part 4)

The kids met up near a blocked off section of the woods. Valerie parked the car on the opposite side of the street. Reaching to the glove compartment, she grabbed a knife and a flashlight. She exited the car, shining the flashlight on the backs of the kids.

Mike spun around, "Jesus!" He exclaimed.

"I am your babysitter and I am also a police officer, no, I'm not trying to talk you out of going in, I'm just here to accompany you on your journeys through the woods. My name's Haven."

"Hey, guys." The one with the hat said, "You feel that? I think maybe we should go back."

"No. We're not going back. Just stay close. Come on. Just stay on channel six. Don't do anything stupid."

The two boys walked past the barricade.

"Hey guys. Wait up."

Valerie followed the boy with the hat. Clicking on her flashlight as they entered. Holding the knife backwards in her right hand. The butt of the knife is pushed against the palm of her left hand. The rain began to pour on them.

Valerie walked ahead of the group, "Will!" Her voice rang out.

"I've got your X-Men 134!" The one in the hat said, "Guys, I really think we should turn back."

"Seriously, Dustin? You wanna be a baby, then go home already!" The other one said.

"I'm just being realistic, Lucas!" Dustin replied.

"No, you're just being a big sissy."

"Did you ever think Will went missing because he ran into something bad? And we're going to the exact same spot where he was last seen? And we have no weapons or anything?"

"I have a gun and a knife." Valerie said, turning and shining her flashlight/

"Dustin, shut up." Mike complained.

The group continued.

"I'm just saying, does that seem smart to you?"

"Shut up. Shut up." Mike pushed Dustin back.

Some rustling filled the air. Valerie froze, "Get behind me." She muttered.

"Do you guys hear that?" The rustling got louder.

Mike shined his flashlight on the face of a person. No older than they were. They had a shaved head and was wearing a yellow shirt that was baggy.

That was one trip into the woods. Valerie thought.
