A/N as far as I know Theo has no official backstory, so I just put whatever the fuck I felt like.

3rd pov

None of them really know that much about Theo. They know everything they've learned about him since they met him and everything that he tells them, but otherwise, his past and the reason he reacts or acts the way he does to some people is completely unknown to them, leaving all his friends curious. The mages and Lords had all gathered together several times since Theo had taken the throne, putting together everything they know, but there's not much there, to be quite honest and it makes them sad.

Theo had shown how well he knows all of them, several times over the past few months, making sure to order a dish they like from their home when throwing a feast, including the few allergies or dislikes he's seen during their travels so the chefs don't hurt anyone, as well as asking them to try new food, all of them overjoyed to taste food from other countries, though none of them will lie when they say they all have a preference for the food Theo cooks, which ranges from food from Sistina to food he found while traveling around. They all enjoy coming over when they get the chance, but their list is still really small and pitiful, none of them able to find anything they hadn't known before, which makes them wonder how to approach Theo about this.

Siluca thinks this needs delicacy, recalling the way he had acted while they were in Sistina as well as the things that had been said by the villagers. Selge and Igor don't know him very well, and neither do Edoqia or Juzel. Alexis, Marrine and Lassic are the ones who know him best, with Alexis feeling they should be careful, but Marrine thinks it's better to just get it over with, see what kind of reaction they get and go based off of that. Lassic is ultimately the one to approach Theo, though he kindly waited until they were not doing business and were just talking, as they usually do during dinner.

"Hey, Theo, what was your childhood like? Siluca told us about how pretty Sistina looked, so it must've been rather enjoyable, right?" Lassic takes a bite of some noodle dish from Sistina, letting out a content hum at the taste, before focusing back on the man. Theo blinks in surprise, eyes sliding to Siluca who is already blushing at being outed like that, though he hadn't told her to not tell anyone. He chuckles, though the sound is distinctly more bitter and soft than they're used to from him.

"You've really been trying to learn more about me, huh? If you think the meetings were hidden they really weren't. Are you... are you certain you wish to know? It might change how you look at me." He looks hesitant, but there's a steel in his eyes, the same thing that drew all of them to him in the first place.

"It's just... We've all known you for months, almost a year at this point for some, but we can't say we know that much about you. We know the place you were born, we know you traveled, we know you created your own crest and we all know the way you started this war, but other than that, there's very little we know for certain. Favorite food? Nothing. Drink? Not a clue. Color? Not even a guess. We all feel like we might be failing you as friends right now." Alexis says, leaning on his arms as he looks at Theo. The man in question is running his finger along the rim of his wine glass, staring at it vacantly, almost like he's not there with them, before finally responding. They all jerk in response, startled at the words that left his mouth.

"If you are failing me, it's not like I would be able to tell. After all, you guys are my first real friends."

"Theo...?" Siluca sounds horrified and curious, scooting closer. She might've been a loner during school, preferring to study than hang out, but even she had her dad and Aishela to hang out with, as well as a few other students that she was only passing friends with.

"I guess it's about time I told you. After all, you deserve to know it, after telling me all sorts of things about yourselves, whether you were drunk or not. It's not right to keep you in the dark." He shifts, sitting taller, before locking eyes with each of them. There's a darkness to his eyes that they don't usually see, not outside of battle, but they all watch, ready for anything. Or so they thought.
