-------------------------------------------------------------
It had been almost half a year since Sunny had been gifted his violin, and about a month or two since Mari had signed them both up to play in a recital. Sunny didn't blame her for this, per se, she'd simply mistaken his eagerness to spend time with her as the eagerness to play in general. On top of this, she was just a worried big sister who'd seen her little brother finally try his hand at something of his own accord. Sure he liked drawing, video games, and comics. Still, she'd always been worried that he'd fall behind other kids his age due to his quiet, antisocial nature and willingness to follow along with whatever his friends did, rather than make decisions on his own. So as soon as he came to her saying he wanted to play with her, it was an instant sell.
However, Sunny would have preferred if she'd asked for his opinion on possibly playing in a recital first. Instead of going through with it without his knowledge or consent.
'Sure, whatever,' He thought, 'At least I get to spend time with Mari.'
However, somehow he knew Mari's perfectionism and no-nonsense attitude when it came to her music wouldn't make it as easy as that for him.
That didn't shake him in the slightest, though. He'd told Mari he wanted to play with her, so he would play with her. Whenever Mari called him to the music room for practice he'd follow dutifully and obediently along behind her, immediately walking up to grab his violin and bow before making his way to his music stand, making sure his sheet music was all in order before positioning his violin and waiting for the cue from his sister.
One thing that did seem to put a dent in his plan to spend time with Mari was the fact that he hadn't played violin in years. And he was more than a little rusty.
Which did not help with the perfectionist situation.
He would slip up on a chord, lose his place, go too fast, go too slow, forget to turn the page, play an octave too high or too low, miscount rests, etc. And both siblings would instantly stop and wince at the mistake before Mari would gently remind him how it was supposed to be done, advise him how to adjust his fingers, etc.
At least, that's how it was at first.
"Sunny, you messed up on the note again! Didn't I already show you how to fix that?" Mari stated, exasperation seeping into her voice as she sighed. Sunny looked away guiltily, she did show him how to fix this mistake the first ten times it happened, however, even his sharp memory couldn't keep track of it alongside the millions of other bits of advice she'd thrown at him. Mari flipped back to the first page of her sheet music before speaking again.
"Alright, again. Try to remember this time. I know how good your memory is, so quit messing around and try to do this properly, okay?" Mari quipped.
Sunny flinched slightly at the harsh words, 'Does Mari really think I'm messing around? I'm trying my best! Why's she being so mean?' He thought, 'No, stop that. Mari's just stressed, she's not being mean, you just need to try harder. Stop blaming her for your stupid mistakes.'
His sister's uncharacteristic aggression thus justified, Sunny flipped back to the first page of his sheet music and readied his violin to play once again. His fingers ached, and he was positive that they were starting to (if they hadn't already) blister, however, he kept his mouth shut -not that he talked much, to begin with-, not wanting to bother his sister or worse, anger her.
