HERO will:
Confront MARI
Don't confront MARI 👈
Hero weighs his options. He's concerned for Sunny, of course. But what about Mari? He knows his girlfriend, and he knows that she's already at her wit's end. She didn't need Hero coming in and trying to tell her what to do, and even without that fact, he wasn't entirely confident that he could talk to her about it gently, without upsetting her or stressing her out more. He looked at Sunny, who was sleeping soundly.
Sunny clearly didn't want to go home.
This was a problem.
The least he could do for him was keep letting Kel distract Mari so that Sunny could stay and take a break for the day. Hero and Kel never really fought, and the occasional time that they did it never escalated this much, but spending time apart to simply reset and unwind usually helped the brothers, so perhaps Mari and Sunny would be able to work things out once they'd had a bit of a stress-free day off.
Hero decided that they would have to pray that this worked because he really didn't know what else could be done about this situation.
He took the forgotten dishes from Sunny's snack out into the kitchen, deciding to do the dishes for his mom while the boy was still asleep, doing chores in an attempt to calm himself down. After all, how could the teen hope to help the poor distressed twelve-year-old relax and de-stress if he himself was barely holding it together?
At the end of the day, he brings Sunny back home, though feeling guilty as he did so, especially upon seeing Mari scolding Sunny for leaving in the first place. He tried to calm her as best as he could, honouring Sunny's request not to tell her anything he'd told him, simply explaining that the younger boy hadn't been feeling well and had most likely gone out for some air.
Mari seemed to calm down slightly at this remark, settling for telling her brother to tell her or ask for permission next time he leaves.
Hero felt like something was definitely off, but to soothe Sunny the slightest bit before he left, he knelt down to the tense boy and wrapped him in a hug. Ruffling the boy's hair, he quietly suggests talking to Mari about how he feels, saying that he wouldn't tell her anything about their earlier conversation, but that it may help Mari understand what's wrong. Sunny shrugged and followed Mari back to the music room as instructed, looking slightly miserable as he did so while Hero bid goodbye to the siblings, heading back home himself.
--------------------------------------------------------
Practice had been going as horribly as before. It was the day of the recital and they still weren't 'perfect' enough for Mari's standards. But frankly, Sunny's had enough. He picked the violin back up so he could be close to Mari again. She kept locking herself up in the music room on her piano and he hated it, but now that he was this far into it, he'd long since started to regret that choice. He'd done this for Mari. He'd been sacrificing his time and effort for this all for her but she'd ruined it. He hated all of it. Practice was a nightmare, but he couldn't help but worry about the recital. If Mari was angry at him for messing up practice, what would she do if he made any mistakes during the recital? This only served to make him angrier. The recital turned his precious big sister into this. Whatever 'this' was referring to.
