Aubrey was walking through the school's hallways, making her way to her class for the day a little earlier than usual -she rode with her dad today instead of on the bus like she usually did- when a little boy rushed past her into her classroom. She recognized him from her class, though she'd forgotten his name. Why was he hurrying? He wasn't late or anything, there was still lots of time left before the bell rang, so what was that about?
Trying to figure out the reason for the boy's quick entrance, she tried to think about how he usually acted. Though now that she thought about it, he didn't really participate in class or seem like the social type. She's never even seen him talk to their classmates. So he most likely wasn't hurrying to see his friends, did he forget to do his homework or something? No, they weren't given any yesterday.
Huh, that's weird.
She entered the classroom and sat down, looking around the room to find the boy.
Oh, there he was!
She found him sitting at a desk near the back of the classroom, right behind Sunny's desk.
Well, that's neat!
He looks lonely.
And a little sad, now that she was looking at him closer.
Hmm, maybe she should talk to him.
Yeah! Who doesn't like making new friends? Maybe she could cheer him up! Besides, Kel and Sunny were riding on the bus as per usual and wouldn't be here for a few more minutes, and Hero and Mari were in the older grades, so she wouldn't be able to see them until after school, meaning she doesn't have anything to do right now anyways.
She nodded to herself, determined in her new goal as she set her backpack down and walked to the back of the classroom where the boy sat staring at his desk. She tapped him gently on the shoulder, startling a little bit when he flinched and whipped his head up to look at her in response.
She giggled at the unexpected response and waved at him.
"Hi! My name is Aubrey, what's yours?" She greeted, smiling happily at the smaller boy.
"U-uhm- hi, my name is Basil..." The boy, Basil apparently, replied somewhat confusedly.
"That's a nice name! Nice to meet you, Basil!" Aubrey exclaimed.
"Ah, t-thank you... I think your name is pretty too. N-nice to meet you too, Aubrey," Basil returned shyly.
"Awe, thank you, Basil!" Aubrey spoke.
