Chapter 18

Christopher and Carolyn had dropped off the kids at school, except for Meredith. Carolyn was sitting in the back with the girl, she had barely slept and was still exhausted when she woke up, her body still in a huge amount of pain. They were on their way to the hospital. Christopher was a doctor, a good doctor but he couldn't work on his own daughter

"We're here, I'll carry her inside" He told his wife and gently scooped Meredith into his arms, the little girl wincing in pain but not entirely waking up. She had received her morning feeding through her feeding tube and Carolyn had given her a little sponge bath as she has been sweating the day before due to being in so much pain

They make their way inside, not even bothering to take her braces or crutches as they knew she wouldn't be able to walk

"Christopher? Is everything okay?" Arizona frowned as she saw her collegue walked inside

"Oh Arizona-" He sighed on the edge of tears "I need you to take a look at our little girl" Christopher held her tight in his arms, trying not to move her too much so she wouldn't be in pain

"Of course. What happened?" The blonde frowned

"She suddenly started crying. Everything hurt, she couldn't move, we couldn't touch her. She was unable to swallow her medicine- It was awful" Carolyn explained as a tear escaped her eye, frightened after what happened during the night despite her being used to work with sick and injured people

"Let's run some blood work first" Arizona announced and gestured to lay Meredith down

"Awww" Meredith wailed in pain, waking up this time

"Shh, honey. Shh" Carolyn brushed her Puppy softly over her cheek "It will be okay"

"Hi Meredith" Arizona softly smiled at the little girl so she wouldn't get scared

"C-Carolyn? I wanna go home" The girl whimpered

"Once we got you help" Carolyn promised "Now we have to let Arizona do her job, okay baby?" Carolyn asked as her fingers softly massaged Meredith's scalp

Meredith closed her eyes and nodded, trying to shut everything out as her body felt like it was on fire. It wasn't until Arizona slowly lifted her leg that she started screaming bloody murder

"No! Aah!" Meredith cried in pain

"Hey, baby girl. You'll be okay. We're sorry" Christopher kissed her forehead

"I'm sorry, Meredith. I won't try again. I'll make sure we get you a nice soft bed at the PEDS ward for today" Arizona apologized

"Do I need to stay?" Meredith's eyes widened in fear

"We don't know yet. We'll have to wait for the results first" Chistopher smiled softly

"Wanna go home" Meredith muttered

A few hours and many tests later Meredith was laying down on the bed in an itchy hospital gown. They scheduled her to insert a port so they can just inject her meds but Meredith didn't like that idea

"Carolyn?" Meredith quietly whispered as she hugged Puppy tight to her chest

"What's wrong, sweetie?" Carolyn asked and brushed some hairs out of Meredith's face

"I wanna go home" Meredith whispered

"Once they placed the port we'll go home. Christopher is getting the other kids now" Carolyn explained

"Hi Meredith. We're here to start the procedure" Arizona announced "Carolyn can come to the OR with us, you'll be asleep and won't feel a thing" Arizona explained

Carolyn was still sitting with Meredith, her husband had taken their other kids to the cafeteria to grab something to snack as it was already four in the afternoon. The girl had woken up a few times but needed to stay a little while longer before they could take her home again

"Aww" Meredith winced as she tried to turn a bit

"Shh, honey" Carolyn softly rubbed Meredith's head and pressed the nurse button

"Carolyn, is something wrong?" One of her colleagues walked inside

"Can you page Dr Robbins, please?" Carolyn forced a small smile

"Of course" The other woman smiled apolitical

"Did you hear, honey? Dr Robbins will be here soon so she can give you some more pain meds"

"Carolyn, hi. You paged me?" Arizona walked inside a little later

"She's still in s big amount of pain, can you please give her something to help her with that?" Carolyn asked

"I'll give her some more pain meds" Arizona nodded her head "But Meredith, I need to check the port first, okay? This might hurt a little" The blonde doctor announced

"Carolyn-" Meredith whimpered and tightened the grip she had on her stuffed dog

"Shh, sweetie. I'm here with you, you're not alone" Carolyn wrapped her arms around Meredith and saw how the little girl was in pain

"It hurts" Meredith whispers

"It looks okay, Meredith. You have no fever so you should be able to go home in a bit" Arizona softly smiled but the little girl kept crying

"Can I call my husband so we can leave? I'd feel much better having her at home" Carolyn sighed as she held the crying girl in her arms

"I'll call him so you can get Meredith ready" The blonde doctor smiled softly "I'll make sure her discharge papers are ready"

"Thank you" Carolyn nodded before she started to help Meredith get changed but then noticed the gown had caused some of her skin in her neck to break. She quickly grabbed some stuff to clean it up and bandaged it before changing the girl back into her pajamas

"Wanna go home" Meredith muttered

"We're leaving very soon.." Carolyn sighed "What do you wanna do at home?" She asked to distract the girl

"Dunno" Meredith quietly whispered. Carolyn had noticed Meredith was sometimes very upset with her own special needs, she was so upset by the amount of pain and seeing her siblings do all kinds of things she couldn't do

"Maybe we can watch your favorite movie and the boys can treat the girls by making some popcorn" Carolyn winked

"Yeah" Meredith sighed and got quiet again "I'm not hungry"

"Then let Markie turn on the movie" Carolyn winked, the girl smiled a little at least "Now let's go home, I think we all need some cuddle time" Carolyn lifted Meredith in her arms and kissed the girl's forehead. She was exhausted, absolutely exhausted but her kids were worth it, she would do everything for her family
