Chapter 27

"Amelia, I'm bored! It's raining and we're stuck inside!" Meredith mutters playing with the stuffy in her lap.

"Me too..." Amelia sighs."The boys are lucky that they got to go with Dad to the store."

Meredith looks over at Amelia. "Didn't you tell Daddy that we wanted to stay at home?"

"Yeah but still Mer! Mommy's busy and we have nothing to do." Amelia sighed again. "Maybe we should've gone with Daddy and the boys... maybe Daddy would've bought us new toys."

"Like stuffies!" Meredith's eyes widen. "Melia, next time we gotta go!"

"What can we do now?" Amelia asks, holding onto her stuffy.

"Hmm..." Meredith's eyes light up. "Melia! I have an idea!"

"Yeah???"

"You should push me in my chair! Like really fast!" Meredith says excitedly.

"Ooh yes! Maybe we can time ourselves on how fast we can go!" Amelia says, jumping up. "Come on Mer! I'll help you into your chair! Mer! What if we make an obstacle course!! But not too hard!"

Meredith nods excitedly.

Amelia gets to work quickly setting up a course for them in the long hallway and living room downstairs. Amelia uses multiple rooms for the obstacle course. Carolyn is upstairs and would say no if she knew what they were up to.

"Mer! It's all set now! This is going to be so much fun!!! I like that zig zag section!" Amelia says excitedly.

"Me too! That's the best part! Meredith giggles. "Okay, help me into my chair Melia!!!"

Amelia helps Meredith into her chair and pushes her over to the starting line, both girls not realizing that Amelia never strapped her into her chair as they are too excited to pay attention.

"Ready, set... GO!" Meredith yells.

Amelia starts pushing Meredith in her chair, running faster and faster.

"Melia faster! Push me faster!" Meredith giggles. "Faster!

"I'm going fast Mer!" Amelia says, panting as she runs.

"Wanna go faster!" Meredith yells excitedly.

They get to the zig zag section of the course.

"Zig zag! Zig zag Amelia!" Meredith says excitedly. "Faster!

Amelia speeds up even more near the zig zag section but it was the wrong decision. She takes the corner too fast and loses control of the wheelchair. Amelia falls from going so fast around the corner.

The wheelchair with Meredith in it topples over and Meredith falls out of the wheelchair since she wasn't buckled in. Meredith is thrown a little bit away from her chair. If she was buckled into her chair then she would've just stayed where her chair landed. But because of the speed they were going and her not being buckled in, she got thrown a little bit away from her chair, landing hard on the ground.

As soon as Meredith's body makes contact with the chair, she starts sobbing in pain. For once she was having a really good day and was not in any pain but now? Now she's in pain from hitting the floor.

"Mommy!!!" Meredith wails loudly. "Mommy!!!!"

"Mer are you okay?" Amelia asks quietly. "I didn't mean to!"

"I hurt!!! It hurts Melia!" Meredith sobs.

Amelia starts crying when she realizes that she accidently hurt Meredith. "I'm sorry Meredith!!!" Amelia cries loudly.

Just then Carolyn rushes up to them as she heard Meredith's cries for her. "Girls, what's going on in here? Oh Meredith, what happened baby?"

Carolyn quickly picks up Meredith from the ground and lays her down on the couch. She quickly makes sure Meredith is comfy on the couch.

"Where does it hurt baby girl?" Carolyn asks.

"Everywhere!" Meredith wails.

Carolyn decides she needs to know what happened.

"Amelia what happened sweetie?"

"I'm sorry Mommy! I didn't mean to!" Amelia sobs. She hugs her mom and Carolyn gives her a hug back.

"Did Meredith fall out of her chair? How'd that happen?"

"We were having an obstacle course and I lost control of her chair and then we fell! I didn't mean to Meredith!!!" Amelia cries loudly.

"It's okay." Meredith cries loudly, knowing she didn't mean to hurt her. They were just trying to have fun.

"Amelia, why were you running with Meredith in her wheelchair? You know that's not safe! You know better! It's unacceptable Amelia. And then you didn't even buckle her in? Come on now." Carolyn says, upset with her daughter.

"I'm sorry!" Amelia sobs. "We were bored and wanted to have fun! I didn't mean to hurt her!"

Meredith sobs loudly. "Mommy! I really hurt! Make it better Mommy!"

"Amelia, you need to think about what you've done. I know it was unintentional but you really hurt your sister. She's in a lot of pain. Say sorry to Meredith and then go to your room for a timeout." Carolyn says sternly.

"Mommy! I didn't mean to! We both wanted to have an obstacle course! Why isn't Meredith in trouble also? Why does she always get special treatment? It's not fair!" Amelia stomps her foot on the ground.

"You're not the one sobbing in pain! She wasn't the one running! You know better!" Carolyn says.

"Not fair!" Amelia yells.

"Mommy! I hurt badly!" Meredith wails.

"She's not your Mommy! She's mine!" Amelia screams at Meredith. She immediately runs off and pushes at Meredith's wheelchair with both hands.

"Amelia Shepherd!!!" Carolyn yells as Amelia runs off.

"Mommy!!!!" Meredith cries loudly. "Why did she say that??? That's not nice!" Meredith sobs.

"I'm sorry baby. She's upset, she doesn't mean it." Carolyn says, trying to soothe Meredith.

Amelia peeks her head around the corner and sees her mom comforting Meredith. "It's not fair!" She whispers.
