Meredith was softly whimpering from her spot on the couch. Carolyn had adjusted her pain meds and feeding
They could hear Amelia stomp from upstairs. Carolyn couldn't even properly comfort Meredith as the girl winced at every touch. Carolyn was looking at how a huge bruise was forming on Meredith's leg already, not even wanting to know how bad it must be on the girl's body parts that were covered with her clothes
"Mom! We're back!" They heard the boys come in
Carolyn noticed how Meredith wanted to turn her head away but was physically unable to
"Hey girls." Christopher walked in, trying to hide his frown as the girl was still whimpering. He kneeled down next to her and softly kissed her forehead. "Hey monkey, what's going on?" Christopher asked
Meredith kept quiet and closed her eyes, causing Christopher to turn around and frown at his wife
"She and Amy had a race. Amy pushed Mer around in her chair and she was launched out of her chair. Amelia is upstairs, she's in time out.." Carolyn explained
"Oh monkey. And who won?" Christopher tried to ease the whole tension in the room
"It's not Amy's fault. I wanted to race too." Meredith quietly said. "I'm sorry."
"Shh, I'll talk to Amelia in a bit." Christopher said softly
"Do I need to go back?" Meredith quietly asked
"Back to where?" Christopher asked as he saw Carolyn looking at the stuff the boys bought
"You- You and Carolyn aren't my mommy and daddy.." She whispered, a single tear running down the girl's cheek
"Meredith, what are you saying?" Christopher frowned
"Amelia said you're not my mommy and daddy." Meredith said and closed her eyes again
"You don't ever have to go back, of course we're your mommy and daddy. At least if you want us to be?" Christopher asked and watched as the little girl slowly nodded her head
"Meredith, sweetie?" Carolyn walked inside. "How are you feeling?"
"Kay.." Meredith whispered, not wanting to say she was in a bunch of pain but didn't wanna complain, scared Carolyn and Christopher would send her back to Ellis
"Mer?" Derek walked into the room. "Are you okay?" He climbed in next to her
"Sure.." Meredith sighed
"Can I hug you carefully?" Derek asked her
"Dunno.." Meredith sighed, not wanting to complain about the pain
"It's okay Mer." He stroke her fingers through her hair
...
Meredith had been laying on the couch all day with the boys that didn't wanna leave her alone
"Guys, time for dinner!" Carolyn announced
"Hey monkey, I'm gonna lift you, okay? Tell me if I have to let go." Christopher lifted Meredith in his arms and sat down at the table with the girl on his lap. He adjusted the tube feeding but would still try to make her eat anything
Right then Amelia walked inside and climbed up her chair, remaining silent
"Okay enough. Amy, what's going on?" Christopher asked
"My mommy's angry at me!" Amelia whispers
"I wasn't angry. But you need to understand it's very dangerous to race with Mer.." Carolyn sighs
"But Meredith wanted to race as well!" Amelia scoffed
"That's true." Meredith nodded quietly
"She never gets punished!" Amelia sighed
"I'm sorry.." Carolyn looked at her four kids and realised things had been a lot lately and it had gotten much harder to take care of their four kids, keep working and take Meredith's special needs on top of it
"Mommy didn't mean to give you that feeling, Amelia. We promise we do everything to keep you all happy" Christopher said
"Can't we go play outside a little after dinner?" Derek suggested, seeing both his sisters sad
"I think that's a great idea, son." Christopher nodded
...
"Go Melia!" Meredith softly giggled, still a bit quiet
"I'm soooo tired!" Amelia ran off the field
"I'll take over. I love you." Carolyn kissed Amelia's head
"I'm sorry" Amelia grabbed Meredith's hand
"No need to.." Meredith sighed
"I didn't mean that about mommy and daddy. I love that you're my sister now" Amelia nods her head
"You don't have to say that" Meredith quietly said
"I mean it, Mer. I love you lots and lots!" Amelia smiled.
"I love you too" Meredith nodded and finally smiled again
"Can I hug you?" Amelia asked Meredith, being very aware of the possible pain it could cause
"Yeah.." Meredith cracked a smile and hugged her sister despite the awful pain she felt ripping through her whole body
"I love you, you're my sister" Amelia hugged Meredith tight
"You're my sister as well." Meredith hugged Amelia close, not noticing the others were smiling at them
"Family hug!" Mark yelled
