Y/N's Pov

"I'm ready?" I asked, mostly shocked by this revelation, but excited at the same time.

Master took just a moment before answering, and said to me. "Mostly. You already know everything I can teach you, but you still haven't mastered it." This was reasonable, seeing as even I could notice that I was a bit green when it came to precision with my techniques. "So this is what we'll do. We're going to spar every day once, until I deem you fit. You'll have to train by yourself though. I'm very tired already." I was a bit surprised by this, but only nodded at this, and then said.

"Yes, Master." And then left for the day.

I was really tired at the moment, so my first stop was the kitchen, or at least, the place that Master designated as the kitchen. There, I picked a bit of meat, and while I ate it, I walked back to my room. As I climbed the ladder to my room, I started thinking. 'Well, I have to focus on my precision. Master already said that my strength should be enough for the time being, meaning that my technique is what's left. We still have a lot of targets left on the depot, and they should be enough. Starting tomorrow, I'll focus on using them to practice my aim.' Once inside my room, I focused on continue eating, and after I was done, I grabbed a book that I had gotten at the library downtown, and continued reading it.

The next weeks were as following: I would wake up, and almost immediately be challenged by Master. This would normally drain most of my energies for the day, since I normally lost after getting a beat up for myself, but in the end, I managed to devised a strategy which would allow me to avoid almost all damage and finish the battle pretty quickly. This didn't earn me permission to go to the final selection, but it did leave me with more energies for the day, making my training more effective.

To be honest, after a couple weeks of working, I really didn't know what was happening. I worked hard every day, and my technique seemed to be flawless when hitting the targets, and sometimes when Master would come see me train, he agreed that it was pretty good, but at the very same moment that I started fighting with him, most of my precision would disappear and my movements would become clumsy.

I don't know why was this, especially because it only happened to my attacks, not to my defenses. Every time I tried to attack him, I would almost instinctively fail, but when it came to stopping or deviating Master's attacks, I would do it almost perfectly. "You're too good for your own good." Said Master one day suddenly.

"W-What do you mean?" I asked, very confused to be honest. He took a moment before answering, and then replied to me with another question.

"You don't like to harm anyone, do you?" I was still confused, mostly as to why this was relevant, but I simply nodded. "I'll admit, you're possibly my best second student, and you have already learned abilities that normally only veterans learn, but you refuse to use them appropriately. Every time you start fighting, your nature tells you to avoid harming anyone, hence why you aren't good at attacking anyone, but you're defenses are according to your level." I could mildly understand what he said, and then asked.

"So, is there anything I can do about it?" And after meditating it for quite a while, Master replied to me.

"Not really." Shocking me quite a bit. "Inner instincts, like this, are hard to overcome. They're deep engraved in your mind, and it doesn't matter how much you work on them consciously, because they work unconsciously." I think I understood a tiny bit less of what he said last time, but I still had to answer, so I said.

"Then, what should I do?" To which he answered.

"Continue training. Always focus on hitting your target, and you may be able to override this instinct." This was a bit underwhelming, but I simply shrugged it off, and continued training.
