Ace's POV

The Next Morning

Once Ray and I got to Beacon Cliff for our initiation, we stood alongside the other students that were there. The two of us, along with all of the other students, were standing on silver tiles in front of a mug-holding Professor Ozpin and Glynda with her tablet. Ozpin spoke and said, "For years, you have trained to become warriors, and today, your abilities will be evaluated in the Emerald Forest." Glynda spoke next and said, "Now, I'm sure many of you have heard rumors about the assignment of 'teams.' Well, allow us to put an end to your confusion. Each of you will be given teammates... today." Ozpin continued and said, "These teammates will be with you for the rest of your time here at Beacon. So it is in your best interest to be paired with someone with whom you can work well." Ray and I both shared a brief glance and Ozpin said, "That being said, the first person you make eye contact with after landing will be your partner for the next four years."

I looked at the headmaster somewhat shocked as he continued and said, "After you've partnered up, make your way to the northern end of the forest. You will meet opposition along the way. Do not hesitate to destroy everything in your path... or you will die. You will be monitored and graded through the duration of your initiation, but our instructors will not intervene. You will find an abandoned temple at the end of the path containing several relics. Each pair must choose one and return to the top of the cliff. We will regard that item, as well as your standing, and grade you appropriately. Are there any questions?" Jaune raised his hand and said, "Yeah, um, sir?" Ozpin ignored him and said, "Good! Now, take your positions." Everyone struck a pose on their tile, and one-by-one, every student was launched. After I was launched, I pulled the glove off of my left hand and held the glove in my mouth as I slid down along the trunk of one of the trees, using my robotic hand to slow me down a bit as I went. Once I got to the ground, I took my glove out of my mouth and put it back on my hand. Then I started running in the direction of the temple trying to find anyone knew as I thought to myself, I hope I can find Ray, that'd be perfect. If not, Ruby would be nice to find, or Yang, maybe Jaune. I kept running until I came upon a small clearing that had an Alpha Beowolf, and it had its eyes on me.

I ran towards the Alpha Beowolf with Equinox and Blitz raised in their sword forms, but it was too late. The Grimm leaped into the air and aimed its deadly claws at my head. I closed my eyes and flipped myself in midair. I switched Blitz to its gun form as I deflect the first of the massive claw swipes with Equinox. I quickly spun around, slamming my sword into the Beowolf's jaw, breaking it open. I jumped and did a front flip, using my momentum to strike the Grimm in the head with the hilt of my sword. The blow was followed by another strike to its stomach and a gunshot to its shoulder. As I dodged one of its massive swings, I noticed a few other Grimm darting through the trees and heading towards me. I quickly brought up Blitz and fired a warning shot that broke the Grimm’s composure. The Alpha Beowolf took another step towards me, giving me ample time to rush it and slam it into the wall with my sword. The attack left me dazed and unable to move, but it left the monster still standing. I slammed the hilt of my sword into the creature’s head and I rolled out of the way. I was able to throw a punch towards the Grimm before it was able to throw another blow. It got me in the chest, and pushed me back. I was able to stand again, but the creature swung its massive fist into my stomach, knocking the wind out of me.

I clutched my stomach and staggered back, as the Alpha Beowolf advanced towards me once more, only to have its head cut off by a familiar blade made of Hard Light Dust. As the Grimm dissipated into dust, I saw the owner of the sword come into view and I said, "Hey, Ray. Thanks for that." He nodded and said, "No problem, Ace. I guess we're partners now." I smirked and said, "Guess so. And I couldn't have asked for a more perfect of a person to be partnered up with." He smiled and said, "Likewise." As my Aura gradually came back, Ray and I made our way through the forest until we reached a clearing that revealed the circular stone temple, broken and decrepit but for the platforms around its inside, holding several black and gold objects. I looked at Ray and said, "This must be it." The two of us walked over to the pedestals and noticed that each pedestal had a chess piece on it. Ray spoke up and said, "Some of them are missing. Looks like we weren't the first ones here." I nodded and grabbed a golden bishop piece. Then I said, "Now we just need to get back to the top of the cliff."

Before we could go anywhere, I heard the sounds of a couple gunshots, followed up by the crack of a whip. Ray and I both turned to see a girl and a guy run into the clearing. They grabbed a golden bishop as well, then noticed us. The girl had titanium blonde hair that was just past shoulder length, and she was wearing an orange v-cut tube top, orange short shorts, and orange hightops. The guy next to her had short black hair that was sticking out from underneath the white fedora he was wearing. He also wore a white undershirt with a purple vest, dark blue jeans, and dark purple cowboy boots. On his vest, he had a star badge with what looked like a lasso on it. The guy spoke up first and said with a slight southern accent, "Howdy, my name's Mason Melone. This here is my sister, Bella." I nodded and said, "I'm Ace Dodger, and this is my friend, Ray Stone. I guess the four of us should head back to the cliff together." Mason and Bella both nodded and the four of us made our way through the forest.

After a few minutes, we came across a small pack of Beowolves. Three of the Beowolves noticed us and charged towards us, but we were ready. As the Grimm approached us, I began calling out to the others to effectively take out the Grimm quickly. I converted Blitz into its sword form, dodging as much as possible and forcing the Beowolves to move around the sword. Ray fired his Dust-infused Energy Pistol from his right, taking out the nearest Beowolf in mid-charge. He fired a second shot as the second Beowolf was retreating, hitting the Beowolf dead center. Mason pulled out a whip, and began using it, along with his guns to take out two more of the Beowolves. Bella immediately dove towards one of the Beowolves and stabbed it in the back with her glaives. I parried the first charging Beowolf with my sword, then killed the Beowolf that Mason had not finished off with a gash to the face. The third Beowolf seemed to be tiring, and I sliced down on its leg. The fifth Beowolf immediately let out a growl and began to attack me with a powerful kick. I easily blocked the kick and countered with my sword. As I held it back with Blitz, I pulled out Equinox and shot the Beowolf a few times. It fell to the ground and dissipated into dust like the other ones. I converted Blitz back into its Deagle form, before I spun both of my guns in my hands and holstered them. Ray rolled his eyes at me and muttered under his breath, "Show-off." I smirked and chuckled as the four of us continued on our way through the Emerald Forest, towards the cliff to finish our initiation.

I hope you all enjoyed this chapter.
Master out.
