Vol. 4 Ch. 30 Higanbana

Ace's POV

As we kept walking, Ruby said, "Come on, guys! If we pick up the pace, we can hit the next town before sunset!" Jaune said, "Assuming it's still there." Ruby replied, "Of course it'll be there. This one's supposed to be pretty big! Hee-gan...bayn-a." Seeing her struggle, I said, "Higanbana." Ren continued, "It's a well protected village with a popular inn." Nora replied, "Which means, no camping in the rain!" I smiled as Ruby said, "See? Everything's going to be fine!" Jaune said, "You know, we've had a lot of ups and downs. But things could be a lot worse. I really thought we'd see more Grimm." Ren replied, "As did I." I nodded and said, "Me too." Nora said, "I guess our luck is finally turning around! To Higanbana!" Jaune, Ren, and I replied, "To Higanbana!" And Ruby said, "To Higanban... ban-a!"

When we arrived in Higanbana, we stopped at the inn and I said to Ruby, "I'll be back. There's something that I need to do." She nodded and I left the Inn. I walked over to a familiar house in the village and knocked on the door. A familiar woman with green hair and aqua green eyes answered the door and said, "Yes?" I smirked slightly and said, "Hello, Mrs. Stone." I smirked a little more as she realized that it was me and pulled me into a hug as she said, "Oh, Ace! It's so nice to see you again, sweetheart! Come on in." She invited me inside and said, "What are you doing here anyway? Ray told me that you were staying with your girlfriend in Patch. I think he said her name was Ruby?" I nodded and said, "He was correct. But Ruby, being the determined person she is, wanted to go after the people who were behind what happened at Beacon. So Ruby and I, along with a couple of our friends from Beacon, are making our way to Mistral. We actually just arrived here in Higanbana a little while ago. I just thought I'd stop over and say hello." Mrs. Stone nodded and said, "I see. Well, where are you staying?" I smiled and said, "Oh, we're just spending the night at the inn." She nodded again and said, "Is that one of your friends there outside?"

I turned to look out the front window and saw Ruby walking down the street, calling my name. I rolled my eyes and said, "Yep. That's actually Ruby. I guess I'll introduce her to you." I went outside and called out to Ruby as I said, "Hey, Rosebud! Over here!" She ran over and said, "Ace! There you are! I was starting to get worried." I smirked and said, "I'm fine, Ruby. Actually, there's someone who I'd like you to meet." I gestured Ruby inside and said, "Mrs. Stone, this is my girlfriend, Ruby Rose. Ruby, I'd like you to meet Olive Stone, Ray's mom." I turned to Ruby and said, "She's the person who raised and took care of me after I lost my parents." Ruby smiled and said, "It's nice to meet you, Mrs. Stone." Mrs. Stone smiled and said, "It's nice to meet you too, Ruby. Ray told me a bit about you. You know, I don't think I've ever seen you this happy before, Ace. You two must really love each other a lot." Ruby nodded and said, "Yep! I love him more than anything." I smirked and said, "I love you too, Rubes." Mrs. Stone smiled warmly and said, "Well, it's getting a bit late. You two should probably get back to the inn and your other friends." I nodded and said, "Yeah, we probably should." As we walked out the door, Mrs. Stone stopped us and gave me a quick hug as she said, "It was great to see you again, Ace." I smiled and said, "Likewise, and besides, I've always kinda thought of you as a second mom." She smiled and said, "And you as a second son of mine, now take care and be safe. Oh, if you see Ray, tell him I said hi." I nodded and said, "Will do, bye Mrs. Stone." She waved goodbye to us as we began to head back to the inn.

When we got back to the inn, I decided to take a shower while Ruby changed into her pajamas. As I felt the warm water rush over me, I started thinking about how much I'd been through lately and how Ruby has been there for me. I sighed and finished my shower. I put on my sweatpants and left the bathroom. I found Ruby sitting on the bed playing a game on her Scroll. I set my jacket over a chair in the room and said, "Hey, Ruby?" Ruby put her Scroll down and said, "Yes, Ace?" I smiled as I walked over, sat down on the bed, and said, "Thank you for staying by my side and supporting me. Especially when I doubted myself. Thank you." She kissed me on the lips and said, "I'd do anything for you, Ace. I love you so much." I climbed into the bed next to her and said, "I love you too, Rubes." We shared a long and passionate kiss. When we pulled away for air, Ruby laid her head on my bare chest and I wrapped my arms around her. Then we both drifted off to sleep in each other's embrace.

I know this chapter was kinda short, but I hope you all enjoyed it nonetheless.
