"Hello, darling."

"Happy Halloween!" I said cheerfully through the phone. There was a funny feeling in my stomach, making me curious on what it meant, but I passed it on to thinking it was just butterflies that woke up from the sound of Eddie's voice. I was excited to show him the costume I picked out.

"Happy Halloween." His voice sounded quieter. "Listen, darling, I'm sorry, but I don't think I'll be able to make it tonight." My heart sank as I heard the words leave his lips.

"Oh, okay." My words were full of sadness at the thought of Eddie not being next to me all night long. Why couldn't he make it?

"I'm sorry, (Y/N), I really am." Eddie apologized. There were voices in the background that rambled on, muffling Eddie's words. "I'll make it up to you, though, I promise." I stood there, my head was empty from not knowing what to think or even what to say. After a few seconds, I gathered up my thoughts.

"That's alright. I think I'll just go to Stacy's party tonight then." I shared my backup plan with him as I twirled the phone line between my fingers.

"I don't think a party is the best idea right now, darling. You just got out of the hospital." Eddie sounded worried.

"I'll be fine, I promise. I'm going with Steve-"

"Harrington?" Eddie cut me off from the list I was about to tell him. His voice changed, making it sound like he hissed the name.

"Um, yes?" It sounded more like a question as I confirmed the idea of going with Steve to Stacy's party.

"That's an even worse idea." Eddie admitted to me.

"How is that a bad idea?"

"Be-because, because Steve can't protect you if something were to happen. You know how last party went." Eddie stumbled over his words.

"Eddie, I really don't think that tonight will go the same way that last time did. I'll be safe." I tried to ease his nerves. "Are you sure that's even the reason that you're upset? It seems like-"

"Eddie, come on!" A clear female voice called out on the other end. I furrowed my eyebrows, wondering who the hell she was. Jealousy instantly spread into my mind like the plague.

"Hold on." Eddie growled at the woman.

"Just hang up. We're busy." The woman said again, in a tone I didn't like, and then the line died. I listened to the beeping as I gripped onto the phone harder. I then slammed it onto the hook and stared at it with a burning rage.

It could be nothing. Eddie loves me, he wouldn't do that...right? I mean, he seems upset and upset people do stupid shit...but this is Eddie we're talking about. I just don't know.

Great, now my confidence was going down. I walked over to the medicine cabinet and threw back a pill that I was given for the pain. I knew it wasn't a good idea, but I could care less. I then walked back over to the phone and dialed Steve's number.

"Hello?" Steve's voice came through the phone after a couple rings.

"Hey, it's (Y/N). I just wanted to let you know that I'll be going tonight so pick me up whenever." Steve sounded ecstatic after the newfound information and told me when he was going to drop by to pick me up for the party.

I gave myself one last look in the mirror before smiling. I looked hot! I wasn't too sure if I wanted to go with this idea, but I'm really glad I did. I decided to keep the heels in the costume, ignoring the pain and practicing not to limp in front of everyone.
