"What are you doing so early?" Kyoko got out of the back door, just to see Arnold digging the little farm land near his home.

"Didn't I say, I would help you?"

The latter replied without lifting his head from the ground, focused on the work he was doing.

"Waah! So diligent."

Kyoko teased.

"I will help too." He then excitedly went inside, to change into his regular clothes and got inside the farmland.

"Why is it so hard?

"Aahh my waist, my hands....

"Can't we stop for today?"

The once silent workplace was filled with whining and complaints from Kyoko, who knew the land left barren for years would go so hard and be difficult to plow.

"Plow today to get the soil ready and tomorrow we can plant the seeds." Arnold stated before starting to loosen the soil.

Pursing his lip, Kyoko pretended to think for a while. "Oh, I know. I can bring water." He escaped before he even got a reply from Arnold. Field work was too exhausting for Kyoko so he didn't want to be dragged by Arnold to do it. Even though he was the one to offer the help.

Kyoko returned after a while with 2 pots of water, looking haggard and one of his hands had the stains of some blood.

"What happened?"

"Don't dare lie." Arnold cornered him as soon as he saw Kyoko.

"It's nothing. The kids were playing and it hit me."

How can the kids play hurt him to this extent?

"We need more water. Let me come with you." Arnold poured the water on the field in one go. He didn't give it much thought about how a small poodle was made because of it and it was just a waste of water. Just wanted to go to the well and know the truth.

Kyoko denied at first, insisted he would go alone, but in front of the stubbornness, his denial was nothing.

Observing the surroundings very keenly, Arnold was still efficient in drawing out the water. It was not that he didn't trust Kyoko and he could do whatever he wanted but Arnold needed to make sure Kyoko was okay. As long as it was safe and everything was done within Kyoko's will, Arnold wouldn't interfere; that was what he had promised himself.

"Look, look, the beggar came again."

One of the village kids stated to the other.

"I won't miss this time."

He put the stone on the catapult and began to stretch, he pulled his tongue out on the side of his mouth and locked on Kyoko.

The stone flew from his hands and made its way towards Kyoko only to be blocked by Arnold. The kid groaned while the others made fun of him. Arnold glared at the kids which made them shut and they ran towards the other way.

"I'll hit him next time."

The kid said before running away.

Arnols turned towards Kyoko who was silently watching the scene unfold in front of him.

"Why didn't you say anything to them?" He demanded.

"It was just some kid's prank."

"Before too?" Kyoko understood what his question meant, he slowly nodded embarrassed. Letting kids bully him.

"Do they hit you all the time?" Kyoko immediately shook his head.

"Let me rephrase it. Do they play pranks on you all the time?"

The light haired gulped, unable to get a clear answer Arnold understood the answer in his silence.

"Brooding over it would benefit none. Let's go back."

Arnold carried the vessels and followed Kyoko.

The days passed by and already half a month had gone. The crops were growing well, Arnold would keep watch the whole night and with how domineering he looked with his sword glistening in the moonlight, the villagers who tried to vandalise would get scared and leave the field alone.

Soon, one and half months passed. Now it was time to harvest and transport it to sell.

It was dawn and the light haired had just woken up, searching for Arnold and he went outside.

The dark haired was on the fields, with an eagle, he had tied something to its leg and set it free to fly. Excited, Kyoko ran towards him.

"Was that your bird?"

His eyes sparkled as he tiptoed and leaned towards Arnold, the latter patted his head and chuckled towards his childish nature.

"It is a messenger bird." He replied.

Kyoko had seen him sending and receiving the letters on a regular basis. Who was he sending it to? His family? His friends or.... his lover?

He sulked at the thought of Arnold having a lover. What right did he have to keep Arnold all by himself? None.

"I send them to my subordinates."

As if, the latter had understood what goes inside Kyoko's mind, he stated. Kyoko looked up at him with enthusiasm.

"You said, you have a place to be. Do you remember?" Arnold knew he was referring to the time when he had mentioned about leaving.

"It's not urgent. I will go once you are ready to leave this place." He caressed Kyoko's cheek, while the light haired blushed and looked away.

Later that day a carriage and three men arrived in the village. They were all huge and had scars on one place or the other, well- built and had the aura of some war veteran but looked a bit young for that. However, anyone could tell from afae that they were royal soldiers.

Without stopping anywhere they knocked at Kyoko's door, those men had already been the talk of the village so almost everyone was watching it from afar.

"I told you that man was suspicious. What if he is some runaway criminal and the emperor has sent to find him?" One of the villagers started.

"What if the emperor decides to annihilate the whole village as a punishment for hiding a criminal?" The other one added.

"Because of that bitch, we are all doomed."

One by one the agreement to speak against Kyoko and Arnold poured in but all were made to suck up their breath when those three royal guards knelt as soon as they were in the presence of Arnold.

On the other hand, Arnold looked so big, not his appearance but his presence. They gulped. Reminiscing how badly they had treated Kyoko. They feared their karma.

However, they were still alive so maybe Kyoko hadn't ratted them out yet. It meant they still had a chance to overcome this crisis, sensing their doom nearing and all of them collectively agreed on silencing Kyoko forever.
