The next morning came by and Arnold was ready to set out.
Kyoko accompanied him as far as he could, as a pretense to send him off.
"You've come far enough. Return and wait for me." Arnold could not help but adore Kyoko's sulky face. 'How could one get more adorable as the day passes?'
"Fine." Kyoko agreed, still mad at the fact that Arnold didn't agree to take him on the journey.
The dark haired cupped his cheeks and kissed his forehead. It was the most affection he had ever shown Kyoko, to which he was clearly not immune and thus, dyed the colors of his cheeks including to his ears in deep crimson red.
"The journey won't be long, I shall be back around sunset. Behave properly and wait for me." He said oh so sweetly that the latter had no choice but to comply with Arnold's words.
"I will cook your favourite meal. So return before it turns cold." Kyoko meekly reminded him.
Arnols couldn't help but smile uncontrollably at his adorableness. 'It seems just like a wife seeing her9 husband.' He entertained the thought.
'Bound by wedding doesn't sound bad.'
"When I return, I will ask something of you. For now, I bid my farewell."
Arnold then climbed his horse and galloped towards the nearest village, since none of the villagers on their own would buy anything from them. The three men followed him in the carriage loaded with the goods.
Kyoko was both escatic and curious at the same time. What Arnold had said to him just before leaving lingered in his mind.
'What is it that Arnold wants?'
Kyoko racked up his brain thinking about it but couldn't reach a plausible conclusion. However, he was sure of one thing, no matter the demand Kyoko would give his all to fulfill it.

After some moment of Arnold's departure, villagers made sure to confirm that he and his men had travelled far enough to reach any whiff of commotion, in case Kyoko decided to scream or they failed to silence Kyoko.
Two of the village men knocked on Kyoko's door. But no one answered. After a while of banging on the door, they tired themselves out and decided breaking the door would be the better option.
Once the door was banged open, they were greeted only by the air.
"Did he find out?"
"No, he is not the sharpest blade. He must have gone somewhere."
"I told you guys, we should've kept a watch on him but your cowardice."
"You could've kept the watch yourself."
The two of them began to argue, oblivious to the fact that the latter had returned and had listened to their grumblings. Without wasting another breath, he ran from there. He had to, if he wanted to live. Confronting them would only lead to a certain death.
Without daring to look back, Kyoko ran through the forest, now everyone including the children were made to look for Kyoko.
"He ran towards the forest. Let's go after him!" The villagers all ran after him.
After getting far enough from them, Kyoko slouched down against the tree and started to whimper softly.
'What did I do to deserve it?' He thought. He just wanted a peaceful life with Arnold. Kyoko hadn't harmed anyone in his life, he hadn't even thought of cursing someone, accepted his fate as he always had.
'Why would heaven decide to punish me this way? Is it because of my abnormality? Is it so sinful to love someone?'
All the years of emotions that had piled up suddenly decided to burst out, disguising as tears. He wiped them and peeked from behind the tree, after seeing no one, he decided to move a bit farther.
The slippers he had worn had been lost somewhere in the process of escaping, so he was bare footed, however he didn't even let out a squeak whenever the thorns pierced through his foot. He was even too scared to breathe properly.
When the sun started to set, the incoherent noises of the villagers went farther and farther, a surge of relief hit Kyoko and that's when he felt his body giving up on himself as his eyes got heavy and darkness engulfed his vision.
