Day 11: the worst advice you’ve ever heard, or ever been given
Hard one. I’ve heard lots of advice over the years; I hardly remember most of them.
But I guess this would be the worst given to me: to go with the flow.
It might seem like good advice, but from my vantage point, it depends on the situation. “To go with the flow” means to let life carry you where it will. You’d have little choice; you’d be bound by the norms.
We were born free, weren’t we – made in God’s image to look after all His other creations? Even at the beginning, we were given the liberty do what we wanted. The only rule was to leave the tree of knowledge of good and evil untouched. We were tasked to change what we can and accept what we cannot. That said, we cannot simply sit by and say yes to everything.
And one more thing (I’d always heard this from my parents): we shouldn’t be gullible. Not everything dictated to us by others is good. “Kung sinabihan ka ba nilang tatalon ka sa bangin, tatalon ka?” We have a duty to stand up for what we believe is right (and sane, for that matter).
Kagaya lang din yan ng pagpili ng kurso sa kolehiyo. Kung lahat ba sila mag-aaccountancy, ‘yun din ang kukunin mo? Eh pano kung chemical engineering ang sinasabi ng puso mo?
Toinks.
Just go where your heart leads you. That’s how I see it. Hindi sa sinasabi kong salungatin mo lahat ng makakaharap at makakabangga mo. Just that we should learn to choose when we should submit to the winds of fate. (Ansabeeeeeee?)
~Thank you for that wonderful question. *step, bow*~
