The Elf and I raced toward the tower. It seemed we were evenly matched in speed and endurance. That was, if neither of us used abilities. Slyrak could make me run faster but that would be considered cheating. The same if Fymryn used hers.
We were neck and neck as we approached the start of the 2 peaks. Slowing to a walk, we were both tired from running the long distance and panted heavily. Ava trotted up as the other Elves came walking. They did try to catch up but we were faster. My horse nudged my cheek with a snort.
"Here we are." Fymryn said.
"I'm telling you...there's nothing there..."
"Yes there is, it's right here. I can see it too." I say.
Fymryn walked forward into the canyon while I followed behind with my mare. We walked onto a neatly laid stone path leading toward the tower, the others following us. They would all suddenly gasp, we turned our heads to see them staring at the tower. Now they can see it as we do.
"We told you so." The Elf smiled.
We walked the path while passing by the flowers. I found myself stopping to get a closer look at them. These were a flower I have never seen before, they were beautiful and their aroma was quite pleasant. Like a fresh perfume that had been freshly crushed. After my quick stop, I stood and ran to catch up to the others.
Reaching the entrance, we approached the tall doors leading inside. All of this space for just one man. It must be terribly lonely. I ordered Ava to stay put outside, she obeyed and went to sniff the flowers as I did.
Fymryn knocked on the door to the tower and they swung open freely. It opened into a large grand hallway, the ceilings high as could be. It was truly a sight to behold. We entered the tower and marveled at the beauty of the architecture. No words were spoken, only audible gasps.
We would walk through a single doorway at the end of the grand hall, the sound of footsteps going silent. That's odd. I looked around to find the Elves I accompanied were nowhere to be found. By the Gods, where did everyone go? They were right beside me.
"Fymryn?" I call out.
The only reply was the echo of my own voice. Quite ominous indeed. I proceeded with caution down the corridor, looking over my shoulder every now and then. Surely someone was here, no? He had to be.
Suddenly I stood in a bright yellow void. Above my head were 3 hovering orbs that circled me slowly. My eyes sparkled with awe and wonder.
"Identify yourself." A gentle male voice spoke.
I cleared my throat and straightened my posture.
"Skylana."
"How did you find this place?"
"It was rather obvious, sir. A large tower at the base of 2 peaks"
"This place has been hidden for 1000 years, then you and an Elf just so happen to see it?"
I shrug.
"I don't understand it myself, sir-"
The Void around me shook then I was now in a large dim and grey room. A large cauldron sat in the heart, a dim yellow glow radiating out of it. By Mene, what just happened? One moment I am in a corridor alone, next in a void, now here?
I would notice Fymryn standing next to me and she appeared as baffled as myself. The sound of footsteps approached us, the figure of a man stepped into the light. He dawned a fine silk robe, his hair was long like my own only blonde, and had Elven ears. The Elf and I glanced between each other before looking back to the estranged man.
