*** This story will not be a reader story per say. It will follow a girl named Chloe.
I'm trying to make the story more of a slow burn with multiple parts- tell me how you like it!Summary: Chloe's parents die during her 4th year and she's sent to live with her Uncle Ed. Something is going on in her home which causes her to act out and be unfocused at school. A situation makes Severus realize why she acts this way.
Warning: This entire story (as in every part) is going to be a bit uncomfortable- topics such as sexual assault and abuse will be implied, swearing
**The reader is a kind hearted Gryffindor which follows the conflict as to why your behavior is so puzzling.
It all started when her parents got into a car accident. It's crazy how your life can change in a matter of moments. It seems like yesterday she had just gotten a letter from them. She'll never forget the moment when a first year interrupted her lesson in Transfiguration.
I feel a tap on my shoulder and I turn around. I see a first year Hufflepuff nervously wringing her fingers.
"T-The Headmaster wishes to see you." She says shyly.
I set down my quill and look to the front of the classroom. Professor McGonagall was already looking at me and nods her head, showing I have her permission to leave.
I look back behind me and I see that the girl is already gone.
I pack up my papers and shove them into my bag.
What could be so important that I had to be pulled out in the middle of class?
My palms start to sweat as I exit the classroom.
Am I in trouble?
Is it about my grades?
Is it about my parents?
Nervous thoughts fill my mind as I hurriedly walk up the stairs to knock on the door to the Headmaster's office.
"Come in." I hear.
I walk in and see Professor Dumbledore talking to Professor Snape. I wonder what they could be talking about at a time like this..
"Ah, just who I was waiting for." He smiles gently at me.
Professor Snape looks over to me with his infamous solemn expression.
He looks back over to the man sitting at his desk and nods his head at him, before swiftly passing by me.
"Come sit down." He says, his smile dropping, looking a bit sad.
Oh Merlin. My heart is slightly racing. What's going on? What happened?
I sit down in there chair across from his desk and he says
"Dear, I regret to inform you that your parents have gotten into an accident. A car accident. I'm sorry, they did not make it." He says.
My brain can't even process a reaction yet, like my brain just froze out of shock.
It makes sense why they were in muggle transportation in the first place- my mother being a muggle (although my father is a wizard).
I then start to cry at the news, the emotions immediately hitting me like a tidal wave. My hands shake and my knee bounces up and down.
What am I going to do? Where am I going to go? It's the end of my 4th year and summer break is approaching.
As if reading my mind, he says
"Your father's brother, your uncle, will now have custody of you until you graduate from Hogwarts."
My hands immediately stop shaking and my heart drops...
Uncle Ed... I've met him a few times but he's always seemed... Odd. Making weird comments about me and saying strange things to me when my parents weren't around.
My throat goes dry at the thought.
It'll be okay, it's gonna be alright.
He may SEEM weird, but that doesn't mean anything will happen.. right?
I forget that I'm still sitting across from Dumbledore.
"Uhm.. okay. T-Thank you for informing me. I just need time to.. process.. things."
"Yes, of course. You may take the day off from your classes. Your teachers have already been informed by owls a bit ago. If you ever need anyone to talk to- feel free to speak to me or your head of house. Or any teacher for that matter." He states, smiling sadly at me.
I wipe my tears and nod my head, standing up, and exiting the office.
Present - Chloe's fifth year
Chloe sits at the dining hall table for breakfast on the first day of school, not bothering to interact with anyone else.
She looks down into her lap, spacing out as she subconsciously traces the bruises on her thighs.
Somebody taps her on the shoulder, making her jolt in her seat and whimpering, gaining attention of a few peers.
Embarrassed, she turns her head around and sees Professor McGonagall.
"Oh, I'm sorry sorry dear. I didn't mean to spook you, I just wanted to make sure you're alright." She says, concerned.
"Yes I'm sorry, I've just been.. a little.. out of it. The train ride was very long." Chloe says nonchalantly.
Chloe looks around the room, just observing her surroundings for the first time since she has arrived.
She looks up at the teacher's table to see Dumbledore and Professor Snape looking at her with worried expressions.
Well, Dumbledore looked worried. She couldn't tell what exactly the potions master was trying to convey with his neutral facial expression.
Chloe turns to look back at Professor McGonagall to see the woman still looking at her with concerned eyes.
"I'm alright." Chloe repeats, reassuring the professor with a small smile.
"Well, if you need anything, do let me know. I know that this past summer likely hasn't been easy on you with all that has happened."
Oh boy, you have no idea.
Chloe nods with a tight-lipped smile.
McGonagall eventually leaves the girl alone and walks out of the Great Hall.
Chloe looks down at her lap again, avoiding the stares of her peers and of a certain professor.
