Now, in this chapter I say that Sam is with the tenth cavalry. I would have preferred to make him an airman, but there were only five Black airman in WWI and only one was American, so I thought it was better to write it as I have. Perhaps I will make up for it and write something where Sam is a Tuskegee Airman in another story. Which I think would be fantastic. I would love to honour those brave men in my own little way. Now, I hope you enjoy.
(Y/n) scurried around making sure that everything was just so. She had noticed that the small boat had moved around to land at the jetty, that she herself had landed at only a day before, and she wished to make sure that everything was ready for the guests of her mystery employer. She had not been informed who she would be taking care of this weekend, all she knew was that she had been paid quite handsomely to make her way to the little island. That she had been given more money than she would normally make in six months, to cook for and clean up after nine people. So, in truth, she really didn't care who these people were. As long as they weren't too demanding, then this could prove to be the easiest job that she had ever had.
She had been working for Misses Henderson's Domestic Services out of New York, for just over a year now. Getting little jobs here and there, earning enough money just to make ends meet. So, this, this was an opportunity that she couldn't turn down. Not that she had been given much option.
Over a week ago, she had received a large letter in the mailbox that had had the header of Misses Henderson's on it; but other than that, everything else was a little..........off. The letter had informed her that a Mister Noone, had asked for her personally. And that the next week, she was to make her way from New York to the house on the island. That there she would find enough supplies for herself and nine guests to last the weekend, and that Mister Noone would like her to take care of his dear friends. The only other instruction being, that when they had all arrived, she was to have then all sit in the drawing room and place a record on the gramophone and wait until the recording had ended before resuming her regular duties. Her eyes growing wide, as she saw the neatly wrapped bundle of bills that were in the envelop. A key dropping onto the wooden surface, as she emptied the contents of the letter onto the table in front of her.
So, here she was. Nine bedrooms had been aired and made up. The dust covers had all been removed from the furniture. She had come across some flowers growing in the garden and arranged them in a vase that she had been able to find. And finally, dinner was already cooking slowly in the oven. Now all she needed were the guests.
Suddenly, a loud knock came to the door. (Y/n) giving herself a look in the mirror; straightening her clothes and hair before making her way to the ingress. A smile coming to her lips, as she finally got to see the faces of the guests. Some of which she was slightly shocked to recognise.
"Good afternoon. My name is (Y/n). I'm the housekeeper." (Y/n) explained, as she opened the door fully to allow the guests to enter. It obvious that one or two of them hadn't liked the fact that they had had to lug their own luggage up to the house.
"I have a room prepared for each of you. Once you have had chance to clean up, I will have refreshments waiting for you all in the drawing room. If you would all follow me.............." (Y/n) explained, gesturing for the people to follow her up the stairs.
"If I had known that our host was a beautiful woman like you, I would have tried to get here before now." A man said, as he came to her side. And given that (Y/n) was an avid reader of the social pages, she knew exactly who the smiling man was.
"Oh, I'm not your host, Mister Stark. Mister Noone is your host. As I said, I'm just the housekeeper................"
"And is our host, this Mister Noone here...........?" Tony enquired, as he leant against the doorframe. (Y/n) opening the door to reveal the first bedroom.
"Well.........no.........not that I have seen anyway. Until you all arrived, I believe that I was the only one here." (Y/n) replied, smiling a little at the billionaire, as he made his way into the room.
"Maybe he wants to make an entrance later." Tony mused. (Y/n) finding herself nodding in agreement. The housekeeper more than a little intrigued to meet her generous employer, herself.
"Each of you will find a room on this floor. As I said, I will have drinks waiting for you all in the drawing room once you have all had chance to freshen up. Dinner will be ready for seven thirty. And if you need anything else, please just ring the bells in your rooms." (Y/n) explained, before nodding respectfully and making her way back towards the kitchens. Leaving the guests to settle in.
>>---------------------------------<<
(Y/n) made her way back into the drawing room. She had finished serving the drinks. Finished making sure that each and every one of her employer's visitors had everything that they needed. Now, she had one last thing to do here before she made sure that dinner would be ready on time.
"Sirs. Madam." (Y/n) said, as she made her way over to the gramophone, and placed the record on the turntable.
"Your host left me instructions to play this record for you when you were all here." The housekeeper continued. (Y/n) lowering the needle onto the disc before backing away. Everyone present sitting up, as they heard a strange chuckle crackle through the sound horn.
"Good evening all.........." The male voice began. The guests looking at one another before the voice continued.
"I am so pleased that you are all here. It has taken me some time to get the ten of you here. Some time to organise this little get together. And now that you are here, I am sure that you would all like to know why.......... Each and every one of you has an alter ego. A hero that you mask. But I am here to unmask you all. So let us start with Mister Stark. A man that despite his love for self-promotion has one little secret that he keeps. A secret that he is the great Iron Man." The voice continued. All eyes turning to look at Tony. The billionaire choosing to stir his rather large scotch with his finger.
"But don't think that he is the only one. Captain Rogers and Sargent Barnes have their own secrets too. The pair sometimes known as Captain America and the Winter Soldier. Sargent Samuel Wilson of the 10th cavalry. Or should that be, the flying wonder, The Falcon. Then we have Mister Barton. A seemingly humble circus performer with a penchant for the bow and arrow. A man that becomes Hawkeye after the evening show. The widow Romanoff. A spy known under the moniker of the Black Widow. Doctor Bruce Banner. Who had a slight...........accident, with gamma radiation. Our resident Jekyll and Hyde. I would advise you all over the weekend not to anger him, or you might be unfortunate enough to meet the Hulk. Scott Lang, an apparently simple man. Yet that smile hides a rather intelligent mind. His abilities in the shield of electrical engineering allowing him to utilise the work of one Hank Pym. A suit that allows him to shrink and grow in height. His name........Ant Man. And finally, we have young Peter Parker, aka spiderman. The student that swings between the high rises of New York. All of you in one way or another think that you are the worlds greatest hero. Some admittedly more reluctant than others, but still............You are all here because I wish to prove to you that you are not the heroes that you think. That there is one greater than all of you, and that is me. So, to the reason that you are here. We are going to play a little game. If I can capture and hold you all before midnight on Monday, every one of you will have to confess that I am the greatest. If not, then you will never hear from me again. And each one of you, apart from Stark who is already as rich as Croesus, will find $10,000 deposited in their accounts when you return home safe and sound. Starks pay off will just be his continued belief in his own importance. So, lady and gentlemen, since you will find that there is no way back to the mainland until the little boat returns for you on Monday morning. I have only one last thing to say. Let the game begin..............." The voice explained. All those present looking at one another, as the needle on the record move to the end of the recording. The only sound in the room, the scratching coming through the horn.
"Wait................there are only nine of us. The recording said ten.........." Peter noted as he looked at the others.
"Well..........there are ten of us, if you count her." The captain replied. The guests all turning to look at the stunned housekeeper that stood next to the door.
