So it's piqued my attention that many of you disrelish the Squirrel x Bramble ship, and tbh I do as well.. However, my distaste isn't only directly targeted at Bramblestar; I think Squirrelflight's feisty personality played a role too~
(From this opening paragraph, I'm sure you can discern that this will be a very diFFeReNT rambling session from most BAHAHAHAHA)... bEcAuSe i aM aTTaCkinG tHe oTHeR caT
To begin with I think they're both decent independent cats (Squirrelflight's a great character and Bramblestar was fine as well, being a loyal warrior and having to prove himself since he was a literal carbon-copy of Tigerclawstar)..
However, they're both scratchy mates and I don't think they're made for one another... But I think that they both deserve condemnation for the flop, not just Bramble. Here I'm going to analyze each exact instance of conflict.
To begin with, i can kinD oF understand why they squabbled over Hawkfrost as Squirrelflight perceived him as some treacherous ambitious blood-thirsty yknowwat but Brambleclaw still wanted to interact with his brother. (after all he was lonely with Tawnypelt in Shadowclan and his parents absent) (It was just like how Fireheart was desperate for kin and bloodbonds when he yearned for Cloudtail's success and barreled into the twolegplace for Princess <which got SAndstorm iNSuLTeD>).. It was a mutual disagreement there~
I can also kind of understand why they wrangled over how Squirrelflight lied to the entire clan about "her 3 kits" if he felt betrayed and all (if not disgusted that they weren't actually his though because that's just bratty and shortsighted) even though he did grow a bit cold oNLy tO nAmE hEr dEpUTy..
I don't like how he disregarded her for Jessy in 'Bramblestar's storm' though; that was iMmATuRe which is usually Squirrelflight's job not his; his is to be the more ruthless one.. (Yep I believe they have roles in their disputes).
However, I don't sympathize with their whole row over the damn 'sisters' in 'Squirrelflight's hope'. During that unrest though, it wasn't only Thunderclan that had behaved pretty insistently about relocating Skyclan <like Tigerheartstar EW -_-> and Moonlight herself was rigidly stubborn..
Most people believe that it was that very rift that epitomized how not suited they were for one another, and I agree. However, I don't place all the blame on Bramblestar (even though I do believe that his bullying was a bit excessive in that book).
Troubles had begun before the entrance of the 'sisters' as well (ps. i'm abhorred by the sisters as well). Quarrels had traced back before the dramatic rescue of the fiery deputy (and Leafstar) from the sister's captivity..^^Beforehand, Squirrelflight had literally nagged her mate- persistently- over hAviNG mOrE kiTs, especially since Juniperkit and Dandelionkit lost their lives too early on.
And although all Bramblestar needed to do in that process was grant Squilf her wish (and Squilf would then proceed to play the most prominent role in parenting, leaving Bramblestar with no sweat to secrete), I still believe that Squirrelflight's whining was irksome (and I''m not letting it slip). "i'm soRRy bBy buT wHeN sOmEoNe dOeSn'T wAnT mOrE kiTs yOu giVe thEm sPaCe yOu dOn'T pEsTeR tHeM (aNd tHaT's aLL SiS iN tHiS bAsiC eTiQueTTe LeSsOn)"
I'm aware that Squilf 'no longer felt loved' as well; except I'm chastening her for it. I almost believe that she asked for it. To be honest, before I'd gone online and experienced all those users' tirades regarding "what a horribly atrocious mate Bramble is" I'd actually ridiculed Squilf alongside my friend.
