I sink the ship.
Ok so anything sounds more ideal to me than shipping this ship. I'm abhorred by it. So what's the reason why I refrain from shipping it? Well first off it was Jay's Wing that Half Moon fell for, not Jayfeather. Just because Jayfeather is Jay's Wing's reincarnation doesn't mean he automatically just gets to adopt his past life. (It's just like how the irksome/despicable Cinderheart is NOTHING like the shrewd Cinderpelt; like reincarnated cats are NOT the same [to me at least- i respect yalls opinions], although Jayfeather was the only one enabled time-travel, excluding Lionblaze/Dovewing).
So I still reckon that Half Moon "loved Jay's Wing, not jAyFeATHeR" even though the revelation hit at the end of Jayfeather's episode of rewinded time. Honestly I wanted to let out an earsplitting caterwaul when Half Moon wailed that she'd wait forever for Jay. Like nothing more repugnant has ever come out of a love-stricken she-cat (except like Star Flower, Leafpool, & Spottedleaf (who's better than Star Flower)).
xD
The two did indeed call out to one another -their voices laced with postponed affection (or rather suspended infatuation)- during the Great Battle, fully conscious of the LoVe life they've lived, souring the one not mundane or dry OoTS book (ok maybe the first one: 'tHe fOuRTh aPPReNTiCe' wasn't bland either) for me lol.
Honestly I hope that Half Moon fades from the heavenly ranks of the Tribe of Endless Hunting (or anywhere really) due to the fact that she's a literal spirit of the great antiquity. She really should be gone, except the fact exists that the ancient cats take longer to wane than the middle generations. I really hope she slips from memory eventually though, especially since she didn't exactly contribute to tradition (though she was the *first* stone-teller as I still haven't figured out Rock's backstory). I'd be agonized if I Jayfeather was the only one keeping Half Moon's memory alive (like why does he love her so much?!?!?)
I don't even ship Jay's Wing x Half Moon (too though), let alone Jayfeather x Half Moon XD... So to begin with, Jay's Wing emerges all befuddled from the tunnels as a newly named sharpclaw (because Jayfeather is now in perspective). Then Half Moon is all there slobbering over him (incessantly mooning and drooling), and for no evident reason Jay's Wing actually likes her back?
Jay's Wing was even running into trees because he couldn't adapt to his new senses, then there was Half Moon prancing around all confident and endearing. The wayward Half Moon wasn't that great of a stoneteller either UGH (better than the one mentioned in the 2nd arc of warriors' though). Then boom Jay's Wing's heart is snatched for a [literal] eternity!! HAHAH- probably the least funniest thing you'd ever see unless you actually relish this ship (which i'd respect if u did) xD.
I honestly wanted to punch Half Moon's wretched face when she informed Gray Wing that she "knew love once and it was enough" like sHoO no one needs your sinister and inane advice!! >:[ She did it in such a wistful manner as well while Gray Wing was literally unsure whether or not to leave the mountains and pursue a new future (like how irrelevant was that to the dilemma her seemingly sagacious cat faced)?!?!
Like who cares about your creepy, convoluted, and absolutely failed love story when your cats are either starving (which might not be your fault though) or contemplating ditching your cavecamp grounds (like remember how Moon Shadow abandoned Dewy Leaf??); even though it was your vision hALf mOoN >:C
However, I don't believe there's an age-gap within the ship as Jay's Wing didn't age or become ancient between the time it took for him to become Jayfeather. But for other reasons, I'm still repulsed. Half Moon gives me Star Flower vibes, even though she didn't pursue a tom as badly because it was obvious Jay's Wing reciprocated her feelings (with no initial aversion unlike Clear Sky) (Ivypool is also triggered in my opinion, although I can't pin down why- and Half Moon even looks like that jealous she-cat although their spite stems from different roots).).
(Ok to be fair we can't seem to know why the manipulative (jk) Half Moon pursued Jay in the first place, as we weren't exposed to her perspective. We only deduced that she was the first one to act on her emotions. (omg give us a novella for Half Moon and her first moons of establishing the failed tribe I'm surprised still exists to shelter Graystripe & Flipclaw; i'd be more enthralled than if one existed for Onewhisker xD- anyone agree??))
At least we could infer that Star Flower sought parasitism when she deceived Clear Sky, extracting benefits in rank for herself (since Skystar was no cat other than the unimmune LeAdeR) while harming the malicious tom (like he deserved). Then tbh we hadn't witnessed enough accounts for Leafpool's fondness, despite the fact that the besotted cat was one of the 3 in perspective in the 2nd arc UGH..So wow; so many EH ships, so few good ones even though those rarities simply excel xD..
Like I feel like the only reason the ancient cats even travelled to the mountains to form the tribe was because Jay's Wing was from the future. (It didn't seem like he was only witnessing the chain of events in the past that led to the future; it sounded like he was actually controlling it). I'm honestly dubious that Jay's Wing was faithful in the success of the tribe, like didn't he see how they did the opposite of flourish?? (not as acutely as Stormfur had though)
Honestly, he should've informed the groups that the twoleg construction would only erect a small horseplace thing or something (i think-). But then I acknowledge that he wasn't the only cat to move mountains (eheheheeh puns). The only reason he was able to shift an entire destiny was because the other cats had come to an even balance (or a tie heheheeh), needing just a stone to place things out.
Also the current warrior clans wouldn't have been forged if it weren't for the moribund tribe LOL (screw the tribe xD). So still, it was necessary. But you never know what the ancient cats would've been capable of (although there'd be an absence of rogues) (because cats like Gray Wing & Clear Sky would've still existed regardless of geography/location). For example, they could've just entirely stopped the sharp-claw tunneling tradition that had slain Fallen Leaves; they didn't need to completely relocate somewhere far from its tantalizing entrances. Likely a different path would've been established.
Just because a cat loves another in a book, doesn't mean they should be shipped in my opinion (aka. Jay x Half Moon). Honestly I still ship him with the Stick (in a joking way, not a sincere/die-hard way because that's bizzare). Except contrary to popular belief I think that being a med-cat makes Jayfeather closer to animism and abiotic-factors (no waRRioR could never venerate a nonliving thingy so fervently xD). I'm also sure that a medicine-cat doting on a stick is better than a medicine-cat loving another live cat even if they're from the past.
However, I don't think he's the best medicine-cat to exist; that's Yellowfang in my opinion (yAy way to get sidetracked...) (honestly when people who oppose the stick ship bring Half Moon into the argument/picture I- **speechless scoff**) Seedpaw literally perished at the hands of unrelenting lake waters to rescue his other stick to commemorate the fallen of the great Battle.
I don't know where I'm getting with this rant now; all I know is that I don't ship Jayfeather x Half Moon because yknow- and I don't even ship Jay's Wing x Half Moon because the creepy Half Moon is lusty and disturbing AF (and obviously capable to entice and entrance who we thought was the opposite of gullible)...
xD quite evidently Half Moon is on the list of cats I despise UwU
A/N (2 days after this was initially published): OK I acknowledge how biased I must seem (I say that too much xD)... Half Moon must've (hopefully) only rattled off with her affection because she knew she had a chance in winning Jay's Wing's heart, even though it was still conveyed intensely. I've got to acknowledge that she was better than Ashfur, Squilf, Bumblestripe, Star Flower, & Finleap (etc. cuz I feel like I'm forgetting some cat). She hadn't even pleaded Jay's Wing to leave her some kits to expect so he could continue his legacy before vanishing. But then she was never faced with the circumstances that'd occur when a cat loves a cat who doesn't feel the same way. We'd never witness how she would've reacted as Jay's Wing hadn't hesitated to love her back. Bristlefrost, Stormfur, Thrushpelt, Gray Wing and Thunder (etc.- there i go off listing things again) had all handled it pretty well and I have the impression Half Moon wouldn't had exhibited the half of their discipline (but at least she wouldn't have been as bad as aShFuR- i think)
