I'm not sure where I was, but my feet and legs were tied up tightly.
I squirmed, but didn't scream in fear of any walkers hearing me. It didn't matter, they did. Their hands scratched my skin and I screamed as teeth sunk into my arm, shooting awake.
I clutched the covers, panting. Carl bursts into the room, looking terrified.
I gritted my teeth, one night alone in your bed and your waking the house up.
"I'm alright." I say holding up a sleeved hand, to cover the bite. He didn't move, or say anything, just let me finish my panic attack.
"Do you want to come in my room?" He asks in a knowing voice, like he's bin here before, once I was breathing normal.
I don't say anything, just crawl out of bed and start towards his room. My eyes drooped in exhaustion as I entered, heading straight for the bed, I crawled under the already messy covers. Not thinking of much.
He laid down beside me, muttered a goodnight and turned away.
...
I woke up once again, my arms flailing about as I "fell."
Rick pushed me down the elevator shaft.
This time Carl didn't wake up, which I was thankful for. I laid my head between my knees, trying to decipher all the images. I silently praying everyone would make it back. That soon Daryl would be around to calm me down.
...
Everything was blurry but people were yelling throughout the house, the first thing I thought was, another attack. But when I listened I could tell it was Abraham and Rosita's voices. I shot up, running out of the room, quickly down the stairs.
"Tara." I said, exasperated, my breath caught in my throat. A bandage was wrapped around her bloody face, her eyes closed.
I frantically looked for Glenn and Noah but only Glenn was in the room, his body covered in flecks of blood. I ran over to him, bringing him in to an embrace.
"What happened, is she okay?" I said issuing towards Tara.
"Explosion." He said halfheartedly, looking down at the wooden floor.
"Where's Noah?" I asked, again scanning the room for him, he must be really worried about Tara.
Glenn just looked at me, a shine of tears forming in his eye.
"Glenn," I started, my heart beat accelerating, "where's Noah?" I took a step back. Maggie stared at me tearfully. There was a lump in my throat I couldn't choke down. Glenn's green eyes connected with mine, and he gave a slight shake of his head, and I felt walls crumble around me.
I blinked, I wasn't sad, I felt... Angry.
"They're gonna need some space." I say, starting towards the door. I gasp for air as I step outside, now not under everyone's pitiful gaze. I wasn't the one that died, please spare me.
I make my way towards the gates, only my knife in hand.
Typical. A little brat running away from her problems. My inner voice sneered.
"Shut up!" I shouted out loud, picking up the pace.
"Beth!" A voice called and I spun, ready to knock someone in the face.
But instead I was pulled into a tight hug, two large muscular arms wrapping me tight against a chest.
"I know you loved Noah." Rick said above me, I didn't nod, but my eyes were starting to water. There was only really one person I wanted to be around, but he wasn't here.
"Let's go." He released me and started walking in the direction I had wanted to go. When I didn't follow right away he turned back to glance at me, and I took a long breath and started after him. When I caught up I slowed my stride to match his.
"Anything on your mind?" He asks are we troop into the forest, listening for the familiar snarls of walkers.
I shake my head at first, but still I let "I'm so mad." Slip between my teeth.
"Why's that?" He asks pushing aside some branches, peering in all directions.
"I sacrificed myself so he could get out, I was willing to die." My voice raises.
"He said he'd come back, Tyreese died for him and now he just dies? What was the point Rick. I sure as hell can't find one." I was almost a scream now. There was a snap of a branch behind us and we both turn to find nothing within sight.
"It wasn't his choice to die Beth, unlike you or Tyreese. You volunteered, and I'm sure he would of returned to favor." There was another snap behind me and this time when I turned a walker jumped for me. I backed up so fast I tripped on a rock, and it toppled onto me.
I pushed it up, gripping my knife in the other hand as I heard rick fight off more walkers that appeared. I sunk the blade into its skull and quickly scrambled up, pushing the body off me and started to help Rick with the rest. At first it was only four, but soon there was eight and more shuffling from the bushes.
Rick grabbed my wrist just as I put down another walker and pulled me in a different direction and we took off in a sprint.
My breathing was heavy, as I clutched my knees, but we weren't in the clear yet, walkers still surrounded us. Rick started to take out the left with is gun, and me the right with my knife.
Where the hell did all these come from?I spun frantic to find more had arrived, I started to run towards rick but they all surged and blocked my way. I backed up, running the other way, having no clue where Rick was.
Hopefully he doesn't get eaten because you left him.My stomach cringed. I kept running, looking behind me to see if they were following.
I glanced back one more time, relived to find I'd lost most of them before I stumbled head first into a pit of walkers.
I landed in the red dirt, in the middle, of the deeply dug hole. My fingers scurrying over the ground looking for my knife as the three walkers turned their heads towards me. Ones jaw was dislocated and its spine was bent at a sharp angle, its bloody teeth revealed it had just enjoyed lunch. Another looked like a regular women, other then the skin, eyes, and snapping mouth, she bore a large amount of bites on her left arm. I advanced on them, killing the first and second as fast as I could. Blood spurted for their heads, the last one was a struggle for me. I pushed it against the earth, as it tried to reach for my arms and skin. Smoothly and sleekly my knife entered its soft, gray, skull. Blood and brains running down it's face as if it were standing in a shower.
Then the pain shot up my leg as a half decapitated and no leg zombie sunk its teeth into my shin. My body collapsed and I managed to drive my knife into the back of its head before it could bite any more.
I was so stupid. I didn't see it behind me, crawling towards me as I slaughter it's kind.
What was your point? My head suggested, my leg felt like it was throbbing and I could feel the fever starting to crawl up my neck. I looked down at the walker, good job. You did it.
A "W" was carved into its forehead and I sat and stared at the sky, wondering what it meant.
"Beth!" A voice whisper shouted, slowly the corners of my vision blurred. And I slipped into a deathly sleep.
W is for wonderful.I thought.
W is for wishes
I didn't make
And songs
I haven't sung
For goodbyes
I don't get to make.
